I'm curious about the potential (in HP and TQ) of a 1970 455 with 64 heads. Street manners are secondary, but of some importance.

Parameters:

HEADS
-Aftermarket heads are totally out of the question.
-Also assume the stock 64s could be worked as much as possible/needed.
-In addition, assume the use of any internal component readily available. This includes rollers, coatings, special cranks, rods, pistons, rings, etc.

BLOCK
-Assume filling if need be. However, it must be street drivable with a factory radiator. Good manners is a must.
-I don't mind sleeves
-Valley braces are OK
-In addition, assume the use of any internal component readily available. This includes rollers, coatings, special cranks, rods, pistons, rings, etc.

CAM
-Rollers are fine
-Lifters are open to anything
-Can't sound like it's 8 strokin' (must sound close to stock)
-Will be using P/B, however a can is possible.
-Don't worry about vacuum too much

INDUCTION
-Factory iron spreadbore manifolding.
-Well prepped Q-Jet
-Factory 3/8" supply
-In-tank electric pump.

EXHAUST
-RA long branch manifolds
-Must run mufflers which sound close to stock

Chassis setup:

TRANSMISSION
-TH400

CONVERTER
-Whatever

DIFFERENTIAL
-12 Bolt Limited slip
-Pretty much any available ratio (was thinking
3.73:1 or 3.55:1)

SUSPENSION
-STOCK
-PolyGraphite bushings

TIRES
-You guessed it

In addition, I'm not mentally locked into the 455, it merely suits the car I have. The other possibility is a 400, but I didn't wish to start out at a C.I. disadvantage.

Any thoughts?

Hey Matt, gimme a call.

I REALLY like the combination in my Blue Formula, and it has LOADS of usable torque. Remember, I'm running OEM heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, a 3.08 gear and ONE muffler!

Funny you mention that.

my 67 has a 70 455 +0.030 over with Stock uncut #64 heads, 1.65HS roller rockers, CC Pushrods,Lunati double springs, CC292 cam, Torker I, 850Holley DP with 82/86 jets, TRW pistons with SD Rods, studs for the mains. 4 tube headers with 3" exhaust, 3:73 gears, TH400 w/3000 stall car runs N/A 12.5@106. With 150HP NOS runs 11.5@116. Car weights around 3600lbs with me in it. Good street manners, though with that cam it's got a prostreet sound to it. But the car is driven everywhere and has about 30 1/4 mile passes since I've owned it, and close to 80 1/4 mile passes on the shortblock from the previous owner when it was a dedicated drag car. The engine was built in 1991 and is still going strong.

How does 12.56@ 107.6 ,4290lb race weight with long branch manifolds. A Paul Spotts built 462, ported #64 heads, P-RPM, now T2, lunati s/roller, BG carb,etc...very sreetable! Look up 69f bird, there is a link on his profile to his web page. Shelly allowed me to drive it once last summer . Awesome!
