Took these pics recently since many don't know about them and not many people in the position to get a pic like this:

I've seen the one with Thompson and the one with the engraving block on it....never seen the middle one.
Thanks.

Yep, and compared to what the last set went for I stole them...

I also understand there are 2 or 3 versions of the later common style too...at least according to some on the HAMB. |

How much would a nice polished set Thompson only ones for a 389-421 (low and angled) be worth ???? A buddy here as a set

I wish I would have kept my vintage Cal Custom finned aluminum Pontiac ones and the matched set of valve cover spacers....for my current 63 SD nostalgia racer project .. those spacers would let me run the early Thompson covers on my ported #16 heads
I also have to acquire the Thompson covers first ..lol

Guys say you can double gasket them. I'm more interested in having some custom spacers made to the shape of the cover. A machinist buddy of mine is capable of making them and we talked about doing it and making them to where the spacer is milled down in the gasket area to where you almost don't see the middle gasket....problem is that he's turned into a real lagger and has stalled on dash parts for my coupe and head work for my shovel head for a couple years now, so not even going there with something else. There was some discussion on this in a thread started by a machinist member here, and may lean that way since I'm willing to pay what it costs to have the right look: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=734536 |

I would be happy to settle for just having the old cast spacers back and using my 63 389 valve covers painted light blue (oil fill at front)

Definitely have the ones I want now, and a couple other cool sets for my other cars. 3rd set is the Offies that you rarely see either. |

I need to see what I can get those Thompson for once mine is closer to noise production.
What I have currently to choose from and mind you I am running BBC studs with Alum 1.5's and long RA IV SS valves w roller springs. Stock 67-up blue painted with a stack of gaskets (the thick Mr. Gaskets ones plus two more Felpro stockers) , a set of tall Chrome Moroso I may ruff up and paint light blue, a set of low boy style finned cast M/T 67- up style (I hate them always have) or stock 63 389 blue but need 1" spacer minimum plus a thick gasket possibly.

What do the old spacers look like?
The new ones look like crap with double gaskets and the VC overhanging. |

Old ones were just simple cast ones and just as bad or worse if you hate the extra gaskets.. If the new manufacture Pontiac guys that do machine aluminum parts would just cut an O-ring groove to seal top of spacers and heck why the bottom too! and provide that oring it would be great, while there at it they should make a oil pan gasket like the 80's-90's SBC that is Neoprene reusable with bottom out ferral things that protect from over torquing and splitting plus re-usable at timing cover contact point

I run 3/8" aluminum spacers under my Cal Custom covers. I use a pair of the thin rubber FelPro gaskets on each side and have reused them for quite a while.

I've always likes those covers. I scored some cal custom finned ones for mine. Bbc studs and hs roller rockers fit under mine with the thick butler gasket and a normal height glued together with rtv. I let it dry compressed with the valve cover on the head and peeled the excess off and painted the sides silver.
