My concern with the power you are now making will continue to create sealing issues. Big bore Pontiac engines 4.350"+ leaves little material between the chambers. The heat generated with the center exhaust ports will continue to soften the head. The casting quality is better on the E-head versus the Tiger, but if you are starting to see it now, chances are it will only continue to get worse.

Just asking you dont discredit what Robin has accomplished... he runs under a different set of rules and at much higher altitude. I'm certain at equal weight/ci under same rules/tracks Robin runs it would be quite a match. Even if he is supposedly 160lbs lighter(and that could only be certain if you both drive over the same scale) and going 174 in thinner air I still think he's making more power.

I'm simply suggesting you set a new goal now that you've met your sub 8 goal. GO 174 WITH the ET that mph could get you! THAT's a reasonable goal AND adds to what is already impressive... Then Robin would have to further step up!
I think I am going to try and go 4.90s next.

Hook 174 capability in 1/4 and you should beat 4.90 in the 1/8th and 7.90 in the quarter Jack. Good goal.

Time to learn how to leakdown the cylinders too, Jack. Compression test per cylinder is not enough at your power level.

There was just a thread on YB about this, and Monte Smith said just the opposite.

Its in the Induction Solution section, its a good read and its on the first page.

A compression test will certainly tell you if the cylinder is not making good compression, but a leak down will tell you the same thing as well as help to locate the problem . It will let you know if an intake or exhaust valve is leaking , if its rings , or a head sealing issue. A compression test will not tell you those things...

Like the OTC leak tester kit. With the bump switches under the hood I can do a leak test in about 10min... Have the OTC compression tester too, but I'd only use that if I didn't have access to compressed air.
