Default air filter...74 TA

What are y'all using for an air filter?

The local parts store is listing one that is way too tall for my shaker and the one in there is a puralator brand. Even that one the carb bolt thingy barely threads...

74 TA, auto Y code 455, qjet, iron intake

Airaid makes some nice filters. I like there SYNTHAMAX Dry 100% synthetic, non-oiled filters. I use this one 801-452. but they don't make it anymore. It gives me more room to install the shaker. Made in USA.

So it doesn't need the k&n type oil? How do you clean it or is it disposable like the paper?

No oil. I hate oil bath filters. Wash out with filter cleaner and let dry.

Interesting.

I used to run K&N but the one listed doesn't fit neither.

I found the Wix one on amazon but I'll try to return this dang fram first. Maybe the previous owner mucked with the base or something.

IIRC the TA one is in essence a slightly shorter one than the other 4bbl filters - what you likely have is the non-TA filter.

You should be able to cross reference the OEM Delco filter against others to find the correct (dimensional) one for your car.

Quite likely one of few '70 Muncie three speed Formula 400's left.

Yes, a Fram CA136 is a replacement for the Delco A212CW. A Fram CA342 is the so called replacement for the Delco A366C.

Oh ok, they gave me the CA136.

I'll check see if they stock that other one when I return this one.

Thanks fellas.

If you're looking for the absolute biggest K&N filter you can fit under a shaker you can use their part number E-1570 . If you want to use paper filter you could try your luck and ask for something that fits a 1969 MERCURY Cougar Boss 302.
