Default Rear trunk lid hinge height

Hi working on my 79 ta and putting the rear end of the car togather. I'm seeing with consistency that both sides of the trunk lid dip down at the hinges. Should I jack up the under side to match or bend the lid itself. This car was taken completely apart so not to much to reference thanksClick image for larger version

These cars body panel fitment was never perfect from the start, Ive seen original lower mile cars back when they were new(er) and lower mile cars and restos today that arent perfect and vary from car to car.

But looking at your pics that does seem to be very low. The factory used shims under the deck lid at the hinges to adjust height and other places to line up the body panels as needed. You could probably do a little of both if the hinges dont get it where you want it, mostly shims & a little tweaking of the lid itself.

Ok thanks I'll look at the shim idea. I tried the original lid and it is the same with the low side. So that's at least consistent. Overall gaps are good. Now I'm just using the center section of the package tray to to get the fitment and when I did this I pushed the two quarters together so the center piece was almost touching. Maybe when I did this it curled down the end by the hinges?? .Click image for larger version

Yeah it looks like that area could be too low, hopefully some shims will make up for that.

Glad that worked out for you... thats how GM adjusted the deck lids on all cars with that type of hinge set up. Yours looks as good now as any others Ive seen.

There are smaller shims that look better when positioned right, the deck lid shims were smaller than others like for the fenders since they use smaller bolts. Maybe you can grind off those tabs and position them a little straighter so they arent as visible?
