Default 66 Gto pass door gap

Hi, just noticed this the other day...........not sure what happened but it looks like the door hit the fender a little in a few spots.............bolt under the fender was loose, i tightened that up, but it made the gap even smaller, put two small shims in by the bolt and that spread the gap a little better............as of now the door doesnt touch the fender, but its close slightly above the bottom of the door...............maybe you can see in the pics.

I can move the door up or down when open................so any tips on what i might have to adjust to get this door a little away from the fender.

Thanks

Rich

Sorry about that...................should read i can not move the door up and down....................

Just thinking before i mess up even more..................would adding another shim help move it out some more.

Im not hung up on the perfect gap, just dont want paint flying off the door .

How are the rear door gap and body lines? If good, adj. the fender.

Thanks for that info...............gotta take a better look at things, wondering if i mess with the fender, wont that screw up the hood gaps, those look pretty good as of now.

Lol, was hoping to hear, add another shim, good to go.

Try adding another shim.

Really that’s all you can do at this point without moving the fender.

I was having the same issue on my Le Mans and adding shims at the bottom did the trick, in my case there’s no paint to worry about on my car but just the same try adding a shim.

Thanks Bart.............will do with the shim, wondering if there was a shim in there before, never noticed any issues.....................though maybe with all the jacking up and down ive been doing lately something came loose..............as of now a very small paint chip, so something was moving...............the one bolt i could turn by hand

If you want a wider gap at the bottom loosen the fender at the bottom and then put a floor jack under the frame rail in front of the wheel and jack the frame up. That will open the gap between the fender and door at the bottom. Tighten the lower fender bolt when you are satisfied and lower the car back to ride height.

Hey, jww.................thanks for that info, the problem i had was the gap was tighter about 8-10 inches from bottom....................gap at top of door is good, and bottom of door is good.

I ended up putting in another shim on the bottom..........it moved some.............gonna leave it there before i mess around and have paint flying around.
