Default Dash Harness Help!!!

New member here. I’m in the process of restoring a ‘76 which began life as a Formula, starlite black w/firethorn interior. I am transforming it to a SE TA. The original dash had only Speedo and Fuel gauges,I’ve picked up a full set of gauges. What harness should I be looking for? Thanks in advance!!

Should be able to use any formula or TA harness that had the rally gauges, double check the years that will work for 76 but pretty sure 76-79 for pontiac engine cars will work.

I converted my 72 base firebird to rally gauges and used a 1974 TA harness that bolted to the original harness black at the firewall.

If you dont want to mess with a used harnesses, contact a place like american auto wire and ask for what will work with your year car for rally gauges, should be able to just get the engine harness that will connect to the existing firewall block on your car... the block is 2 halves, one for engine & one for lights etc.

Thank you!! I will start searching for 76-79 harness. There is a place a couple hours away I found that can customize my existing harness so that’s an option too.

It's not that hard to convert your existing harness to run gauges. There are a couple of pin-outs on the instrument cluster you need to change, but a paper clip will do that. If I remember correctly, you can tap off of a wire that is hot when the ignition is on to operate the volt meter. I have converted two cars, a 1973 Formula and a 1975 Formula and operated both for many years with the adapted wiring. You need a schematics page from the shop manual. I think it only took about an hour to do the dash work, the rest was changing the oil sender unit and wiring the tach. Tach wiring is a separate harness if I remember correctly.
