Default Bumper Rechrome Cost

Anyone have a ballpark estimate of cost to rechrome 64 Lemans rear bumper. No repairs or major issues. Just some slight rust starting on top. In the Pacific NW, if that matters. Any referrals near Portland Oregon? Thanks.

I live in Indianapolis. I used LKQ. I just took it to their local outlet and they shipped it to their plating facility in Minnesota. Then they shipped it back to Indianapolis. All they charge for is the plating, since they have trucks making pick-ups and deliveries all the time. I felt like they did a great job. I etched my initials on the inside, just to make sure I got my own bumper back. I just googled LKQ-Portland. 3 places came up. Good luck

It's been years but when I had my bumpers re-chromed I used Keystone. Had a neighbor who worked there so it was convenient although it didn't help price any. I think they were using the same place in Minnesota. Did a nice job. At that time it was $500 each end. But as it has been several years I would expect $750-1000 per now.

In Utah I got a quote to do the bumper from my 70 F body for 1200.

Go to the portland swap meet and buy one redone exchange or buy outright. Usually way cheaper. Might not be 100% show quality though.
Last ones we bought 5 years ago were 300, probably gone up by now. Usually they have 3-4 chrome vendors there from California.

In 2021 a PY member & I dropped off several clean front & rear bumpers @ TriCity Plating in far NE Tennessee. We had considered NorthStar in MN, which is now owned by LKQ.

One of the bumpers I had triple chrome replated was the relatively narrow rear bumper for my '72 T/A project. The other was a '71-72 LeMans front bumper that had a slight twist on one upper edge. Am betting the plating of the LeMans front bumper would most likely been priced a little higher than that of the Bird rear bumper at $475, but it required more labor. All were shipped truck freight back to OK very affordably. I picked them up down the road @ friend's NAPA as it has a freight dock. The LeMans front bumper ended up running $650, & well boxed up shipping was $35 a boxed bumper. Was VERY happy with the quality of the plating.

In speaking to TriCitys owner at the time, he relayed larger rear bumpers would quite cost quite a bit more to replate. Have a pair of '67 GTO bumpers to have done next for a soon to begin project, & as show quality replated, I fully expect to have $2500 in plating for the pair. With the continual increased costs of all of the inputs, its not like the early 90's when I would have local bumper joint do a decent, but not what I'd consider a very high quality replate of a 71-72 GTO rear bumper for under $200.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried to find one for years at the Portland Swap Meet, the vendors never have one. '64 Rear is tough to find. There's a reason they go for $2,000 and up for rechromed ones.

Seen a few last time down there. but I guess it a hit and miss type thing. When you want one they are hard to find and when you don't need one they are plentiful. Good luck .

Sent mine to a place in Canada, Kelowna plating and was over 1000 for show chrome. But was a few years back, probably 2G now.

As an example, here ‘s a ‘64 GTO bumper rechromed in N. Calif. $2,100, or $1,600 with usable core.

Tri City does all my customer bumpers and they did my 67 GTO and 67 Stingray bumpers. I have not been in touch with Chip (the owner) since Elizabethton was hit by the hurricane on the 28th. There was flood damage to the city, but I don't know if his location was under water. He's not far from a river, so hoping he's okay.

Been praying for everyone in the Western NC to N Florida corridor.
What a life altering experience

That sounded great and those pictures look great as well. Quick internet search unfortunately says "Permanently Closed". Damn

Thanks for all the responses. I did find a shop up in Washington that sounds reasonable in a ballpark 'not having seen them' phone call estimate of a range of $500 to $1500 per bumper. As always worry about quality issues with a place you don't know. Online reviews aren't stellar, but mostly due to customer service issues, not quality. I would love to have access to places back East, but shipping is costly to get them there and back. Thanks again.

I always used Tripleplate Chrome in Spokane when I lived there. I see they've changed hands in the last two years. Now called Restoration Plating. Excellent work, but spendy. I had the front and rear bumpers done on my 68 LeMans and I want to say they ran me around $2000 total. It might have been less, I don't have the car/receipts any longer.

Went with the shop in Vancouver Washington. Owner is a Pontiac guy with a 64 GTO. Does great work and it will cost me $1,200 per bumper. Thanks for all your input.

This past spring, I called three places that will exchange or take your bumper at the Carlisle PA spring and fall shows. For the 69 Lemans front bumper:

Tri City in TN ($1300)
Librandis Plating in PA ($1300)
Bumper Boyz in CA ($1350)

No wonder so many folks convert their Lemans to GTO…
