Definitely aftermarket install. My blue '71 HO GT-37 had that style of local install vinyl top installed in '73 or 74. Would have had the car finished many years ago if it weren't for the damage created by the glue from that crappy vinyl top job.

An undetectable touch up on light blue metallic is where I draw the line on that particular theory.

All the after-thought vinyl top installs I have seen used screws to fasten the clips.
No muss No fuss No paint

In the 70's they also had "bend to fit" moldings for aftermarket tops too.
My former 70 GTO had the bend to fit moldings.
Goofy way to do it on the cheap.

Probably not worth investigating to the next owner.
Just dispose of the evidence and forget about the top altogether.
I have used a remote ground setting the ugly under the top. Offset brass collar on gun works too. But. You are right, not as easy as drilling a hole.

And that's where she ended with no further bids.

I would bet the reserve was higher, like maybe 50K. I doubt the seller would be that worried about $23.00.

Shill bid - to force the next bid to tip reserve .
But the next bid never came.
- Were my thoughts

My other thought was the real money should have stopped around 35k range.

True, didn't think of it that way.

Bruce,

The Balestra's had a son named Mark. He owns Pearson Oldsmobile in Sunnyvale, which is just south of Redwood City, where Balestra Pontiac was.
