I wonder what HFR will have to say about this?

That seems a little funny.

Are the repro fenders really that bad?
$319 and it's all yours! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-...QQcmdZViewItem

Just shaking my head in disbelief. Really makes it hard to figure out a reasonable price for one when you see this. NOS fenders were selling for a little more than this price, less than 1 year ago. No, no, no comment on the reproduction fenders.

When I said funny, I meant as in made up. Like a bogus auction.

I still have these hanging around. I thought their value tanked after the repro fenders came out, guess not.
The one on Ebay is nicer than mine though.

R 70 I like those!
The one on Ebay has TOO shinny a paint, compared to the nasty underside. And the rust on the top rear area is suspicious. Then the price, and the bidders history. Makes me wonder, not saying impossible but I'm suspicious. |

I put it in my watch list when it was at about $300. Surprised when it was over $1000 and still not at reserve. Heard they were as much as $1500 before repos popped out. But from what little I have heard about the pops, they may have drove the originals prices even higher now. (oops)
Call Steve's ol' buddy Frank of Bill-n-Trill and see what the price is for one. But be prepared for some cussing and a phone slamming if you don't immediately respond with your VISA number after the quote. Steve, does FD still have pennies scattered all over the place outside ? He was always a little "tense" in the 80's, but a good ol' boy. They say he's gotten pretty uptight these days. Don't you guys get anything besides leftover ragweed there anymore ? |

Frank is hands down the craziest maniac I know, I'm calling him right now to see how much he charges.
He is a NUT!!!! Said $2,000 ish, crazy. I had no idea they were selling so high, makes me cringe at the ones I sent to the crusher 20 years ago. |

I needed a pair for my '70 Judge. I paid $2k for the first pair late last year, and the better fender of the pair got destroyed in shipping. Nearly one year later I was able to collect $1k from the shipper. Both of these needed metal work in the dog leg. I then picked up a couple more that were advertised as rust free. These days rust free means that the rust was removed and replaced with gobs of Bondo. Both of these were out of the question. I finally found a pair of NOS Fenders still in the box and gladly paid $3k. Shortly thereafter the repros came out. I've now got more than $5k invested in fenders, and only one pair that are worth using. Timing is everything I guess.

I did something similar with 69 fenders, although cheaper. Then I bought repos; they were total JUNK, ended up giving them away. I didn't have the heart to try and sell them to anyone.

Keep in mind that this ain't no regular GTO fender. It's a Judge fender!
Seriously though, the bidding doesn't mean much if it doesn't meet reserve.

I suspect that the guys that are bidding it way up are going to use it on a Judge and/or a RA IV car. Nothing will fit as well as a rust free undamaged original fender, including NOS. If you have a car with a potential value of more than $100k, spending $1.5k for a fender is "relatively" inexpensive.

But that thing is not rust free, that was what seemed crazy. They probably had it stored upside down and the water gathered up in that corner. I've had fenders just like that, it ruins them.

I should have looked closer at the ad. It appears that it doesn't have any rust through, but no telling how thin the metal is at this point. It may be a costly mistake for someone. I know that I've been there... several times.

I got $3600 for my NOS fenders about 2 years ago. Old guys set the prices. Guess it's true. You can't take it with you. As for the repros the side marker lens area is messed up and the light doesn't fit properly.

That idiot on ebay wants- get this- $2500 for that fendew!
That's what his reserve was. I have two pairs of NOS fenders- I guess I'll be hanging onto them... For a used fender, with obvious rust on the back side eating away and thinning the meatl, $1500 is insane. $2500 is stupid. The amazing thing is, people think I'm crazy for thinking my CONVERTIBLE NOS quarter panels are woth over $10K for the pair. Looks like I may have been thinking low... |

steved400,
I took a similar risk with some '69 fenders. I bought them on Ebay roughly 2.5 years ago for $1000.00. They were original fenders off of a '69 Texas Tempest. I was absolutely amazed at the condition. No rust (not even surface rust), no dents (not even a parking lot ding), and original paint. At the time I thought that I was crazy to spend that kind of money. Upon there arrival, I realized that I couldn't have found a nicer set of fenders anywhere, no matter what the price. I'd kill for another pair like just like them. TJH, Somewhere out there is a guy with a RA IV 4-spd convertable that has been searching for your quarters. If I was fortunate enough to own such a vehicle, you'd have your $10k. |

His add on classical pontiac today
See Ebay. Keep in mind that I am crazy as I just lowered my reserve from $2,500.00 to a lower figure. I think it's worth much more! I guess I am drunk with power concerning this highly overpriced fender but it's the only game I got for now. You'll have to forgive me because I am actually that stupid that I believe someone else even dumber than myself would overpay for this fender if they need or want it bad enough. I mean the reproduction fenders are only $300.00 or so and you could fill a truck with them given $2,500.00 worth. But again I can't help it...I'm a big dummy! Most folks would only spend $2,500.00 on a fender if it had $2,000.00 taped to the inside of it. There's an idea.....I raise my reserve on the fender to $20,000.00 but then I tape $19,500.00 in cash to the inside on the back of the fender. This way I get my asking price, and you get a fair deal. OK, that's IT! NOW WE'RE COOKIN. HEY! How come the bids stopped coming in at ONLY $1,025.00? I lowered my reserve even though last week I swore I wouldn't do it and still no sale .......yet that is.
