Yes...Below are pics of the PHS of a '69 Judge with one (for export) and a pic of one (not sure on authenticity of actual Heater Delete pic, as I don't remember where I got it from)...

Default radio delete

Not sure if this helps you, but my 68 RA Firebird with radio delete (no radio ordered) had a speaker...

On the wire hole thru the cowl I would think it just got a rubber plug/grommet. My 70 has the w/s antennae yet the cowl still had a hole punched for the wire.....it has a rubber plug in it.

I can see it on ebay now......NOS radio delete antennae wire plugs and they will sell for hundreds of $$$!

Power Ant 68-69's used the plug as well...

Also the speaker grille was covered from the bottom with " black paperboard" taped into place.

There was a post on another forum recently that showed an original one.

RobZ - Thanks for the pictures of the Heater delete - I had never seen one - only a hunch it could exist on a 69 GTO - the assembly manual does not even show it.

do you have any pictures that show if there is duct going up to the defrost slots in the top of the dash. Since there was no heater - no defrost - so no vent - but were the holes just left open. Don't let me down RobZ- get me a picture - is this your car.

I have heard some radio delete cars had the speaker and others did not.

I am the one that made the speaker plate for sweetjudge - i saw it in the 69 442 manual and figure the gto had to have one also. Just trace the speaker.

I have a rear antenna car - no hole in the front fender - the antenna wire runs from the radio to the back of the car with the rear trunk wire or rear seat speaker wire. with 2 other wires a black and white - up & down.

No, sorry..this wasn't my car...

I'm pretty sure I got the pics from a PY member here, though, but it was a while back...maybe he'll see this post and comment...

68 and newer cars for delivery in the US were required to have a defroster, therefore required to have a heater. The only heater delete on these cars would have been export cars. Those would be rare as hen's teeth.

Rear antenna cars had a hole in the pass side cowl not the fender... a block off plug made from rubber was fitted there if it was radio delete or rear ant.

I parted a 69 Tempest 4dr Sedan years ago in upstate NY (car was originally from Guam and in a junkyard near the local Airforce base), it was a heater delete with no radio option.

The heater delete was like Rob Z's photo, it is not a plate but simply the regular bezel but with the vinyl not cut out behind it (the foam was also under the layer of vinyl). It did not have the defrost deflector.

As for the radio plate this car had the woodgrain option (standard on GTO and Safari) and on that woodgrain where you would normally have the radio was a white stenciled safety belt message (saw a 69 Safari LeMans on eBay a few years ago with the same wording...always fasten safety belts... or something like that). Car had a solid version of the grommet in the cowl (I remember since I grabbed it for a power antenna car which used the same grommet). It had the speaker and bracket installed (the green wire was taped into a bale).

On a side note the car did not have a glove box light installed (hole not punched in the liner) but the unit was present (no bulb) taped into the harness.

Someone did not like to spend money, Manual steering and brakes, no rug, 3 on the tree, inline six, dog dish, two spoke steering wheel, etc. Weird thing was car had power windows!! only other option was that woodgrain on the dash (a $5 or so option). I guess his wrists were too tired cranking the steering to also crank the windows?

Great info - so heater delete - no duct to the winshield and radio delete plate but still had the speaker. I have heard this alot. On the engine side did it have the two plates on the fire wall - one covered the big hole and the other covered the smaller blower motor hole - thanks john

By memory there were one or two stamped sheet plates (can't remember which), mounted from the engine side with the same bolts as would be used for the heater case.

John, is the heater delete in the 442 and others only available on an export unit, just like the Pontiac? With federally mandated defroster, I'm guessing that no units built for sale in the U.S. were available without heater.

That is my understanding, the photo Rob had earlier in this thread was a car sold in Aruba if I am not mistaken.

all fenders from factory have no antenna hole. It is punched out as its ordered weather fender or rear quarter. the cowl is either un drilled or plugged. A rear antenna car would be best to check to confirm.

"ordered with no radio" is correct term since in the good old days, an AM Radio was optional on most cars. "Radio delete" came about when radios were standardized, and newer cars, such as 4th Gen F bodies, would offer it for performance versions.

Resurrecting this old thread. Looks like the consensus is that cars that did not come with a radio still had a speaker installed, but there appear to be a few exceptions.

Anyone else have anything to add here?

Thanks

Scott

A base 1969 Chevelle I saw ordered no radio had dull black cardboard inside the hole where speaker should've been. This was a granny car, powerglide straight six cream on white bench seat job dulled out green carpet.
