'78 Intake Adapter Plate ID
Need help identifying adapter plate on bottom of intake gasket for a ’78 400. I recently purchased this TA and now rebuilding the carb. Thin sheet metal with protrusions into the primary holes of the intake. It did peel off the gasket and I cleaned up both sides with 400 paper. Unable to find anything in the shop manual referring to this plate. Metal to metal with no sealant, doesn’t seem right for an intake. Thanks

The plate is related to the EGR or something like that on the intake, its factory correct. Cant recall if i used a gasket under mine or not & car is still in winter storage so cant look yet. Im sure others will confirm if it needs a gasket under it.

I do want to think mine was metal to metal on the intake gasket on top.

That's a diverter plate used to evenly distribute the exhaust gas down the primaries when the egr valve was open.
It did not use a lower gasket. If sealing is questionable... a thin film of ultra copper will fix it right up. Clay |

Thanks everyone. Now I get why it's there. I did put a very thin layer of Permatex. Picked up this 78 TA and a 78 formula for my retirement projects. Have to finish my 70 formula first. Thanks again.
