I bought a Firethorn red with red interior new and don't recall seeing one on the dealer's lot. Silver seemed to be popular back then, at least in my area.

Back in 1976 a friend bought one new - 455, 4 speed, blue w/black interior. I remember going to the drag strip with him, although I don't recall what times he ran.

This is what I have. It's a copy of what I was told was a build sheet. I believe it's just a copy of an old PHS documentation that the other owner had.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to check out a possible blue # matching 455 4 speed Saturday. Currently painted black with factory honeycombs. I'll check the cowl tag and everything else and post my findings.

I have one in my database, an Athena Blue 455 4speed Custom Black interior, AM/FM 8 track.

Wow, 1. I tried to buy it last year and he was set on keeping it. Now he's realized he's never going to do anything with it. I've been told by his brother in law $5500 will buy it. Texas car no rust.

Sounds like a good price. Especially if no rust.
455 and 4 speed is even better.

VERY COOL! I can see where the blue confusion came into it.

Blue was not a factory offered color on the Trans Am in 1976.

Now, we can never say never, but I'd need to see the data plate or factory paperwork before I'd believe it was originally delivered in that any shade of blue available during the 1976 model year.

It's been 40+ years, my memory may be fuzzy about the car I mentioned earlier... At the time there were a ton of Trans Ams in my little home town, this many years later I could have mixed up which car was which.

Having said that, was it still possible to special order paint colors as late as 1976? The guy I knew came from a well to do family and I wouldn't have put it past him to do so if he could.
