Question Basic LT-1 questions.

I have a co-worker who's daughter owns a '97 Trans Am. The engine from what I am told is cracked, since instead of putting antifreeze (the orange type) in it, she just put water, and that is how it cracked. So the compatability for a replacement engine from a boneyard would be a '92-'96 Corvette, '94-'96 Impala SS, '93-'97 Z-28/Trans Am, correct? Any other vehicles that could be used for a transplant engine? Just that I have heard the LT-1's are in salvage yards right now, and locating a decent one shouldn't be too difficult, right? Any help is appreciated.

old caprice cop cars, buick roadmaster wagons. just make sure it says 5.7, not 4.3 as they are the 265 in version of the lt. another thing is the b bodies had cast iron heads, if you find a motor and are not worried about it probably could part out the old motor on the lt1 forums. Alot of people buy the heads and intakes to port. another difference in years is the opti spark distributor one is vented and one is not. a good sight for info is camaross.com, in the lt1 section. I'm more into the traditional pontiacs but have a lt1 camaro that I picked up cheap and like to learn as much as possible, since these motors are alittle different than traditional sbcs.
