Default 7040564 Q-Jet ID Help please

My 70 Formula is originally from California and came with the evaporative cannister emissions system and a 7040564 CA specific carb rather than the 7040264 used for the other 49 states. The obvious visual difference was a vent tube (circled in photo) which protruded up through the bottom of the air breather shell. I believe the intent was that this vent conducted any gas fumes from the float bowl back into the intake rather than out into the atmosphere.

When I bought the car the original carb was long gone. I've never seen an original 7040564 setup on a California car. While most of the EES system plumbing is still on the car, any hoses, tubes etc. to the engine itself had been removed. I want to eventually locate a proper carb. In the last year I have been offered a couple supposedly "all original" cores but they were not the same. While both were stamped 7040564 and had the vent tube for the breather, one had an additional 3/8" hose nipple (see arrow in photo) while the other did not. Would an original have this additional fitting or not? I have now seen two with it and one without. At different times, searching on Epay I've also seen 7040564s both ways.

I might as well ask if there are any other unique features to this carb that I should be looking for? I'm not a fanatical "numbers" guy or anything but figure if I am going to shell out the $ to try and put the car back I might as well try and get close.

Thanks for any advice.

Thank you for this John! I guess I'll assume the "original" without the fitting is some sort of rebuild with a different top section installed.

This is a picture of my old 1970 Formula 400. It was a four speed car so the carb was a 7040563, but the EVAP plumbing would be the came. Note the hose coming off the air horn port and another hose coming off the throttle plate on the driver side front of carb. These two hoses go over to the evap canister located in the right front of the engine well where the canister is bolted to the core support. The third port on the evap canister is for the hose from the fuel tank.

I have a couple 0564 carbs as well as an 0573 carb I can send some pics of if you wish. Can’t really say about any of their originality because they all came to me off the cars in parts lots etc. I’d still be happy to share the pics however
