Around here, Two Lane Blacktop is well known, but not outside of the Pontiac camp. Same with Cannonball, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and Hollywood Knights. Death Race 2000 was OK, but I don't know how much air play it gets. Same goes with the old Martin/Lewis films.
The offbeat movie I liked back in the day was California Dreaming. And speaking of Sellers, I liked the movie Being There.

[QUOTE=Lightfoot;6064409]Excellant choice for the topic.
Me and my brothers started watching that when it came on super late on a Saturday night, about 40 years ago. If you like that one you will like Zulu (1964 film) Remember watching Sole Survivor if I remember you are believing the one airman is "the sole survivor" but turns out it a different kind of "sole".

John Carpenter's "They Live". It reminds me of the cheesy sci-fi/horror movies I used to like as a kid.
"Ride With the Devil". A civil war era movie directed by Ang Lee, starring Tobey Maguire and Jewel and filmed in the KC area. "The Haunting", the original 1963 version. Based on the Shirley Jackson novel "The Haunting of Hill House" I saw it when I was 10 when it was new in the theater and it scared the crap out of me.

I like Vigo Mortensen for his odd ball movies. Two come to mind:
A History of Violence, and The Road. |

"The DI", with Jack Webb. He's a Marine drill instructor on Parris Island in the 50's.

As far haunted house movies go, another one came out a few years back that didn’t get much attention. It’s called “The Others”. Staring Nicole Kidman of all unscary people! I also bought this movie off of the internet. The kids and I have watched it about 10 times. Good old fashioned ghost story that doesn’t count on special effects

"The Quiet Man" - 1952. Difficult to argue with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Really liked the plot, as well as the acting.
No Pontiacs, but a nice sequence of a bicycle built for two. Jon.

There was a dreary, offbeat, sci-fi movie called Melancholia I like, and it is inexplicable that I do. Oh, and to spoil the ending, the world ends.
