Default Project 69 Firebird

Only thing holding back to get my project done is a Starter and Distributor anyone have one, know where to get one or have any recommendations. The Distributor that came with the engine is all seized up and came with no starter parts stores around don't have them. the Engine is out of 1968 Firebird OHC.

I may be able to help again, if Rock Auto parts end up being Chevy 6 parts.

Advance auto. $42 for a points distributor. $50 for a starter. Buy online and use promo code trt30 and get $30% off. have it delivered to your local store for free shipping...

I've been reading about a Pertronix conversion for the distributor or is there a HEI one?

More then likely, Autozone and O'relly's is selling chev motor mounts as Pontiac OHC mounts. What help you have?

The Pentronix will work, but if you install one make sure you have a spare modual with you, I had to rescue 2 of my friends last summer and both had that modual fail

No bolt in HEI units are available, though I do run an HEI on my car, it was a conversion done for me by Tom Langdon of Stovebolt Motors.

Scratch that one about Rock Auto for the starter. I decided to buy one just to have and it said that there were none available. It does show the distributor as being avaiable, but I don't need one. I went on Napa's website and they show two models. One with nine teeth and one with ten. Anybody know how many teeth our starter has?

Grokk,
Let me pull them out and confirm condition and I'll let you know ASAP.

Currently I know of NO starters avail in the aftermarket.

66sprint,
I just ran a search on Napa's site and only came up with 1
I'm unaware of any options other than HD which I don't think is offered.

FYI.
OK I'm getting conflicting info; Autozone & Advance Auto again are showing Starters.
However I only went to the check out online but did not attempt to complete purchase
so don't if you will get a prompt stating it's unavailable?
Might be worth calling if interested.

Grokk,
I do have a good functional distb as well as the starter cone or the whole starter if needed, but it needs rebuild.
If interested in both how's $50.00+ship. Should be able to go large flate rate for $18.
LMK if I can help further.

Years ago I posted my starter "motor" replacement at the Overhead Cammers forum listed in my sig. When Parts America was in business they had a motor listed for our OHC's. Low and behold it was a direct fit and was 99% dead on with the factory motor I was replacing. Still in the car working today. I also used a heavy duty solenoid which was also extremely close to the original. I believe that it is just the "cone" that is the special part for our engines whereas everything else is off the shelf.

Grokk,

That is correct you can swap the cone onto a good starter.

What starter can we switch our nose cone over to? One for a 326, or a 400? Any one with 9 teeth and a clockwise rotation?

The cone is the only thing needed to use a V8 starter 66-69.
Rotation and tooth count ?
I have never heard of a tooth count difference in OHC starters? Standard Vs. HD are the only references I've dealt with for starters.

I was just looking at Nappa's site and found 2 listed starters and did not see anything about tooth count.
Part Number: RAY 2464800
Product Line: NAPA Power Premium Plus
This one has a green check indicating in stock.
