There's a post in the Lobby, also.
The first time I had read about him. He was at a "stock" race, don't remember the place or organization. ALL, ALL the bad ass stock equipped cars were at this race, Hemi's, SS454's, Ford whatevers....They ALL took an ASS whoop'n from a 1st Gen Pontiac Firebird with a 400 and a 4 speed!!! Totally Awesome!!!

Chuck Green ran those early events and that was where I first met Jim. He was one of those guys I would call observational. He would quietly take a visual assessment of the cars in the event and then just dismantle the field with his little unassuming Firebird. As a lifelong Pontiac fan, It was just a beautiful thing to watch. The Big Block Chevies fell like cord wood, the hemi's making all kinds of racket and even getting out of the hole ahead of the little bird, only to get run down on the big end!!! Something that would rarely happen to a hemi car. It was just a beautiful sight. Jim had quiet confidence and his car never disappointed. Like bringing a knife to a gun fight. But his knife was a scalpel in the hand of a surgeon. RIP Jim Mino.

I use to go to Keystone Raceway New Alexandria. Cant remember when I met him. He was running a 68 Firebird with 68,dport,16 heads. Running E/S ,track ran stockers. Probably 72-73 era.I remember talking to him he was thinking of changing cam degree. He asked me what I thought, I said, Jim I never did it,after assembly. He changed degree right there before eliminations. I watched.Ill will go tomorrow to pay respects.

I pitted beside Jim and the POCI drags in Bowling Green. I knew him by his reputation and his beautiful Firebird. Very nice guy. He will be missed.

Doesn't seem like he should have been 80. RIP Jim. We'll all get together at that great dragway in the sky.

Just heard the news on FB late Saturday evening.
RIP, Jim...I will always remember you sticking it to the Mopars and "Brand-X" racers in the stock appearing drags with your '68 R.A. II 400 Firebird.

I remember taking my T/A to a Supercar Showdown. I had done mods to it and thought I was a big deal. Jim shows up with his stock appearing Firebird and as I recall had me covered by 2 seconds. A humbling experience that caused me to realize the big potential of the Pontiac engine.

Agree with you guys. I was trying to learn about racing Pontiacs. I asked him what he used for preparing a Pontiac,he said get factory shop manual and follow it. He did his own valve grinding ,we talked about the old equipment and how to use.

Sad to hear of his passing. I was fortunate to have met and talked to Jim at Norwalk. One memorable moment at Norwalk had Jim running against Jim Anderson. Jim was wanting I think the right lane, but was Anderson's Then they had a light staging challenge. Jim Mino finished the race with the win ! RIP
