LED Household Light Bulbs WTH!
Over the last couple of years I've been switching my normal incandescent bulbs over to LED light bulbs that supposedly last "15 YEARS"! NOT! I am replacing these bulbs way more often than the normal bulbs. After a few to several months they will start flickering and/or just die. Anyone else having problems with LED's?

Several years ago our local utility went to my wife's workplace and passed out LED lightbulbs for free. Haven't had one of theirs fail yet.
On the other hand I've had one fail that I bought from Home Depot.

The ones I've installed have been fine, no issues.

I've been happy with GE and Feit brands. Sylvania has been disappointing.....dimming and early failures.

I had to replace three LED floodlights out of eight around my shop perimeter after about 6 months!

I also have Feit brand from Costco in the house currently, no problems in 3-4 years. I also have 11 Feit LED shop lights at now about 5 years, no failures so far. Three Feit, what is equivalent to 100W incandescent, in the coach lights on the front of the house, going on a year now, all okay.

I've been getting them at the local Dollar Tree (everything's $1) and they have been doing fine for years. I might have replaced one once, can't remember for sure.
All are indoor lights. |

Haven't had any problems with LED's but those curly cue ones were sure junk and dangerous.

I've done a lot of trial and error with these bulbs, and I finally found one that works great. Duracell brand I get from Batteries and Bulbs. They're dimmable, and I use them in my can lights in my family room. I've gone through a bunch of other brands and they'd fail in short order, or start to pulse or flicker. The Duracell bulbs also have a 5 yr warranty on them.
I've also been swapping fluorescent tubes over to led's which I like as well, as they can be retrofitted to the old fixtures, by removing the ballast and powering one end only with 110v ac, and reusing the tombstone connectors.

I do occasionally have issues with some. California actually went and outlawed certain LED bulbs, so it makes shopping for them harder.

Been all LED for 5+ years. Electricity bill went down and I've only had 1 bulb fail. All name brand bulbs, but at least 3 different brands (whatever name brand was the best deal at the time).

The Silicon chip mounting is designed to run hot, so it fails: usually blinking before going dead.
1000 year ability in LED lights, but China versions are craaaap. Make a "chimney" in each lamp fixture to promote cooling the base. Usually 1 or 2 holes in the Base will get flow. CFM for light |

Half-Inch Stud brings up a point: check to see if the light fixtures are compatible with the LED bulbs you installed. In some cases, the bulb may overheat and fail prematurely if the fixture is enclosed or if the bulb is in the wrong orientation.

I'm probably at 90% leds in the house and garage (outside as well) and don't remember changing any of them. I did have to change a three-way led in a livingroom lamp but that was because my wife didn't like it.
Now if somebody would come up with an oven light that lasts more then 6 months ..........

You can't get 15 years out of a new refrigerator. Foolish to think you're going to get that out of a bulb.

Haven't had any LEDs fail yet that I can think of. Have 40 of the feit 4' LED fixtures in the garage for a couple of years no with no issues.
We did stock up on CFLs at costco for our can lights a few years ago when there was a sale and/or utility rebate. Have gone through them like crazy as they burn out all the time. Going to LED in all of them once the last box runs out. Probably just a crap batch or bad model, but it's been a thorn in my side for sure. |

Cree bulbs I found to be absolutely abysmal for lifetime. I stick with General Electric bulbs and the failures stopped (for now).
