Gapless provenance would mean we have a very early build and a very late built SD with that starter. Do we?

I know it sounds conclusive, but some build dates would be helpful here too. I know I am the odd man out with my 500. And I know the AMA called for the 436.

My car is one of the earlier cars built. Last time I checked it was the 6th T/A in the registry. It's a first week of June car.

I bought it from the 2nd owner who had it since '74.

Second owner gave me the receipt with the car for the starter service he had done which was having the solenoid replaced.

The starter is dated a few weeks before the build date.

So does anyone have a a car first week of June or earlier with a 436?

Good questions, SD73.

Is yours a 4 speed?

I would ask that also.
Possibly the 4 speeds got a different one at 1st?
(the early starters)

I'd also be interested in the block date code.
(and EUN?)

It's just a lowly auto. The block date code looks to be K112, but it's hard to get a good look at. There may be a 3 before that sequence. EUN is 773700. I'll have to check my Build Sheet to see if there's more on there.

If you have the build sheet () it should have the starter number on it.

At least what they wanted to put on it.
(maybe not what was put on it)

I think I remember your car now.

I think you posted it before?

I think the build sheet did show 436.

The VIN's of Frank's and SD73's are close, probably the EUN is close also.

The others would have probably 50,000 to 100,000 difference, even though the date codes on block are the same probably.

With the varied ship dates and build dates, still wonder how they selected the engines for the cars.

Yeah, I just verified. It does show the 436. Did it really get it though? Could be, but like I say the build on the starter in there is oddly dated coming from a previous owner who was not into those sorts of things.

What was your date code on the starter?
(500 starter)

Steve, I would think the EUN would be a better indicator of engine build date and maybe to see if there was a correlation to what starter may have been installed. What are the EUN's of these other engines? It'd be interesting to see how many units seperated the June car from the late July car.

Since we are discussing numbers.......I have a set of spiral shocks that came off my old SD. The date code is of '73 vintage. I replaced them with VSE 3-way adjustables a few years before I sold the car.
Don't know if they can be rebuilt to improve damping action but would work quite well for a correct numbers restoration. I have no use for them now.

John, I believe it's May 23, '73. It should be posted upthread here somewhere too.

About 95,000 between them.

The thing is the block date codes are K112 for both and most 1973 SD's.

For the SD's it would seem the engines were sitting at Norwood (or engine plant?) for quite a while before being put into cars?
(November to June at least)

So with Steve's and others, the starters were sitting somewhere to be put on these SD's for even longer?
(Feb 1971 to Nov 1972 at least)
