In the Pypes kit there is a double flared pipe that gets cut in 1/2 to use to fit the system to headers.
I know the pipe is "cut to fit" because there are all sorts headers and they would need different length based on brand. My question is,how much of this extension did you use? Any 70/72 LeMans or GTO install would do. Pictures would be great. The shots on this site don't show any good shots of the area I need to see. Thanks.

Not the greatest pic, but it's what you're asking for. This is my '71. BTW - Others have asked about the thing connected to the plate in the middle of the X-pipe. It's the ground clamp to my MIG welder.

Went out to measure it. The Driver's side is 8-1/2 inches from the collector flange to the weld, and the passenger side is 6-1/4 inches long.
Keep in mind though that I am running 3" pipe. I do not have "collectors". What I did was go to the local muffler shop and got the flanges with a 3" hole, butted the 3" pipe to it, and welded it on. The flanges are 1/4 inch thick, so if you were to measure from the end of the header to the weld, add that 1/4 inch to both figures.

Mine is 2 1/4.I was going to try to eliminate the collector and extension and replace it with the long 8" collector that flowmaster sells.Looks like I will come up a 1/2" short, story of my life

My 67 only needed about 4". The shop that did the installation also tried to eliminate the spacer pipe. In fact they thought they were successfull until I heard a funny noise while driving. When they pulled the exhaust about 2" forward it caused the tailpipes to rub against the axle shaft and brake lines.

Hey PDMRACER how do you like the sound of that X-pipe on your car? I have a '65 Pontiac and I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can about how the Pypes X-pipe sounds on a a Pontiac before I buy one, or if I should stay old-school and use an H-pipe setup. I have a Pontiac 400 with Hooker long tubes in my car with a moderate Comp Cams 280H Magnum cam and I want it to sound like a real muscle car, but am concerned about the X-pipe because on my Mustang an X-pipe or H-pipe will really change the way it sounds. Thanks.
