Default $105K 67'GTO @ Barrett Jackson....why?

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...n=1066&aid=525

OK now that we have all gawked at this 67' and its $105K price tag, its time for some real talk....what exactly makes this one worth $105K? Honestly I don't think iv'e seen any 64'-67' GTO go for that kind of coin except maybe that silver one a few years back that went for right about the same. If I remember correctly that car didnt even have a numbers matching engine. Seems strange. Anyhow every other super nice 67' GTO HO or RamAir hardtop car brings $50-60K tops and most standard 335hp cars don't ever see $40K in tip top shape.....

So why is this one worth so much? The bumpers don't even line up....

Could the former owner have any bearing on the price?

Barrett Jackson blows prices up way past their value; there was an Amphicar that fetched over $100,000 a few years back -

Documented as one of the 751 Ram Air cars built in 67, plus a stunning restoration by Scott Tieman that I'm sure was very expensive. Didn't hurt that it was owned by Jim Mattison who owns PHS Services. With the initial cost of the car plus the cost of the restoration; then the cost of transportation and BJ fees, etc., I'll bet there wasn't much profit, if any, left.

No one has mentioned the 65 red GTO that rung up 90k. Supposed factory tripower 4 speed that had recently won at Norwalk. Anyone know anything about this car?

Key word... booze. BJ plies the bidders with it and the rest is history. Now you know the rest of the story.

Linda Vaughn even looked a little tipsy too.

I think that high price car was a 65 and not a 64.

True but allow me to play devils advocate here for a minute....

It's a nice car but if i'm paying $105K for something it better be absolutely perfect. Or at a minimum, the bumpers should line up. Look through the pics. They don't. In fact not even close on the rear driver side from the side angle.

Iv'e also noticed that, for whatever strange reason, Ram Air 67' cars don't fetch quite the premium you would think they do. I personally would think, all well restored 67' RamAir cars would be $100K+ cars but they're not. In fact not even close most times.

Bret Volkel from Ridetech said on the PT board that they give the bidders 10 free drinks a day....lol. That's blatant IMO.

I wonder how many guys have actually gotten divorced over a whiskey fueled muslcecar bender at Barrett Jackson?

On the phone....Yeah honey i'm only going to spend $35K, iv'e been saving for years so that's it.......**24 hours and 10 Whiskeys later**.....Yeah honey about that $35K....the 66' Chevelle SS I wanted ended up going for $75K....it was really nice....yeah...uhhhmmmm..... no we own it.....well I guess little Johnny will have to figure out his own way through college......honey......are you there......dear?????

I'm with you on the "if any" part Jerry.

I doubt Jim has anything to show for that after all of the work he went through.

Got to agree with the fact that it was rare, desirable, and it sold at an auction that contained people with means to buy what they wanted.

If that's hype then next time you sell your car get the hype up like them...it's not free

Not a bad way to get the price up when you sell. Have a single malt bottle when a potential buyer stops by.

Funny I talked to Ridetech guy too just before his 71 vert crossed at about 2 pm Friday. He did well for that one. IMHO
