"A" Pillar Access
I am going to be putting in a late model rearview mirror with compass and temperature in my '67 GTO. Can I run the wires through the A pillar and down under the dash? I checked and it doesn't seem like there is an opening that would allow this. If anyone has done this can you share some info?

I don't recall if there is any lower opening in the lower pillar that that is already there open to the underside of the dash.
However you may be able to remove the outer pillar cover and gain lower access via drilling? If I recall correctly the pillar is filled with a foam like substance but you should be able to get wires down through it. This would be a PITA but with dash pad off and outer pillar cover removed it might be possible.

You would have to run the wires to the door jamb area, then up through the A pillars. The factory wires for the dome light come up through the rear pillars on the rh side. it would be a longer route, but that is how the factory did it. It came off the intemediate harness between the fuse block and the rear lamp harness. Good luck.

Yes the "A" pillar has foam like sealer in the end of it where it opens into the cowl if I recall correctly. This stops the water and probably more importantly the wind from making the windshield frame into a musical instrument.

If i were doing this, I would pop off the A pillar windlace and run the wire(s) from behind the dash to the passenger side Kick panel up to the metal L, then in between the plastic headliner finishing strip to the mirror location. If the wire isn't too thick, this should work with no cutting or drilling or herculean effort.
