I've looked at a lot of members pics on here and don't remember seeing anybody having a dealer emblem on the back of their car. I finally snagged one that I think is era correct for my car from the selling dealer (Vincel Pontiac St. Louis). Just wondering anybody else has theirs. The one I have is the chrome pot metal type with the sticky backing. It probably came off something else but I'm guessing they all got the same one back then. Makes sense they were stick on instead of drilling holes to mount them in the 70's.

Can anybody speak to what came on their early 2nd gen bird.?

I am pretty sure my 1971 T/A came with a stick-on emblem from Barrier Beck Pontiac in Charlotte. I think it was stuck to the fiberglass tail panel.

My 1974 SD455 4-spd has one from a dealer in GA . Either the dealer is named Tabor, or the city was Tabor.

Googled your mention about Tabor Pontiac on your SD car. It is "Tabor Pontiac". They were located on Peachtree St. in Atlanta back then.

I looked them up a couple of years ago. There were multiple Tabor Pontiacs. My car was sold at the Toccoa GA dealership. It was stuck onto the rear spoiler.

Personally, I've never liked the dealer badges, either the metal ones or the decals. I think they take away from the look of the car. My car still has the original dealer sticker on it, and I won't be removing it from the rear panel, but I have considered swapping in another panel and storing the original.

Yes, dealer plate frame would be neat, but no thanks to having chunky junk slapped on my bodywork or paint.

I agree with comments on how they look. It takes away from the car. I've never liked it. I bought the car, not gonna advertise for you too. I put the heat gun to them on every vehicle I have just as soon as I get it home. I plan on trying to restore the one I just got and just display it with other artifacts from the dealer when I show it. I might not do anything to it, just leave it like it is.

People like to look at old stuff at shows. Picking up something that is close to 50 years old, holding it in your hands and thinking back is a pretty cool thing. I have a few pics from back when it was my daily driver taking the kids to ball practice, cub scouts, dance class, brownies, etc, the build book and a few dealer items + now the emblem.

My Dad special ordered quite a few 60's through 1980 model Pontiacs (Never after 1980) & always made sure the dealership did not install a diecast dealer emblem on any of them. Dad worked for GMAC, often directly with dealership owners & always felt he didn't want to slight one dealer or another that financed through GMAC. Though he typically had a company car, & eventually a pool car, he always felt on his personal vehicles he shouldn't advertise for one dealer or the other. Now if you were a family member or a fairly good friend, he'd point you to one of his favorite dealership owners, & would tell such a buyer to tell the dealer, he sent 'em.

On early second Gen Birds, I've owned nearly 2 dozen, & i cant remember a single one that had an original die cast dealer emblem or evidence of one. The thick often chrome Mylar with black lettering decals seemed to have a late '60's-early 70's origin. The vast majority of local used carlots used such a tacky decal. On regionally sold Pontiac's, there are several dealerships that were using similar well stuck on decals by 1970. Always thought the thin lettered transfer type decal was the cleanest, these allowed just the lettering of the dealership to be read, no background.

Dealership license plate frames as sweet as the look today, were extremely rarely used on early 70's GM cars in my parts. Do know of several in state Cadillac & Buick/Cadillac dealerships & one large Olds dealership that would install such license plate frame up into the early 80's, just very rarely during that time with local Chevrolet & Pontiac dealerships.

Be great to get one of these McCoy (Vancouver WA) frames in good shape..... Found this pic on net. Where silver bird is from. Many dealers did these type frames, nice heavy metal chrome, painted detail area, stylish lettering sometimes.....

The PHS shows my car was invoiced to GM of Canada, and the GM of Canada documents show that the car was delivered to GM of Canada Show Car Account in Oshawa Ontario. The invoice date is February 16, 1971. The selling dealer information and dealer code are not on either document. I have the original sales agreement which shows that Fenton's sold the car to the the first owner on April 18, 1972, so the advertising people had the car for 14 months.

The sales agreement and the plastic dealer warranty booklet both show the following:

1962 LTD
Port Elgin, Ont.
Phone 832-2843

I do not know if "1962 LTD" is a physical address or some type of a Post Office Box.

Slightly off topic but my 1966 Ranger was sold new at Garner Ford in San Bernardino and had the frames on the front and back bumper, but the back bumper had been stored in the attic of the old guys garage since day 1 and still had the orange and black cardboard dealership insert in it.











The last picture is of the reproduction I'm making of it. Notice how each "R", for example, is a bit different than each other, like the original.

On the first car I ever ordered new (a 1988 Mustang LX 5.0), I insisted the dealer not put their dealer plate on the car.... for all the reasons noted by other posters. Many years later I bought the car back from its third owner, in junkyard condition, and did a full restoration on it. And one of the crowning items was the dealer badge I put on the hatchback. Go figure. I just thought it was a neat touch. But I mounted it on magnetic material so I can take it on and off I was lucky to get it, since the dealership changed names/owners many years ago, but a parts guy found one leftover in their stock.


Neither of my '70 Birds had any sort of dealer badging on them when I got them. I've learned that the dealer where the T/A came from used a decal, and I have a good photo of what they looked like, and plan to have one recreated to use when/if I ever restore the car.
