Default 70 GTO Shifter slide plate

Where to get one? Black piece in the photo that covers the mechanism and slides with the shift lever. Is it plastic, or metal? I guess I could make one but if the curve isn't molded it will scratch over time.

However, not paying $30 shipping for a $12 part. Thieves. Any other suggestions?

The piece is plastic, I have bought a couple of them from Ames. Pop the PMD cap off with a screwdriver and use hog ring pliers to release the shift knob. Grease/oil all moving parts of the shifter while you have it exposed. You will be surprised how well it works after, was night/day on mine. Nice ride, I used to have a white 70 GTO 20 yrs ago like yours. Started my Pontiac addiction! Good luck!
