Default '72 Lemans Grilles

Are they Grey inside or Black inside. Or does it depend on model of Lemans, i.e. Sport or plain jane beige?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but black grills inside with silver surround.

Thanks Lyn. I don't need a pic. My attached pic shows the differences. One is of a basic minimal '72 Lemans (A/C was about the only option). The other is a Sport Vert with lots of options.

The back vents are both black, but the area behind the plastic chrome, in front of the vents is black on one and silver (appears to be argent silver) on the other. (It's been so long since I worked on them, I can't remember which came off of which. lol) Somebody must have painted one of them.

I'm not doing a concourse restoration, but I wouldn't want so glaring a mistake to be ignored.

FWIW I have an original pair at home from another plain jane '72 w/ just AC. They are black rails, silver surrounds. Also believe it to be Argent silver though they are quite faded.

Thanks stags. That is the coloring on the best set of grilles.

I'm gonna try to clean them up and re-paint as necessary. I may try to scratch off some of the black on the other set, and see if it has silver underneath.

Well, well, well, I guess the easy way is to just mask off the chrome in front and spray the rest of it black like the grille behind.

I scraped off the black by the hole for the hood release handle, and there's silver (faded of course) beneath the black paint.

Thanks again, stags.
