Default Post Up Your Pets

OMT's thread about his kitty passing got me to thinking we should have a thread about our pets. I'm a dog guy myself but any animal you have is cool. Show us some pics!

Here's my old Norwegian Elkhound, Torvald when he was 13. Tor was my first dog. Raised him from 8 weeks and he made it to two months shy of his 15th bday.

Here's Rikki, another Elkhound. He died at just 7 years - suffocated in a tortilla chip bag he got off the counter while I was at work.

Here's my current boy, Jack. I call him a North American Pound Hound as he was a stray I picked up from a PAWS shelter so don't know his heritage. Best dog I've ever had, he'll be 7 in January. He makes friends with people who don't really like dogs.

Here's a short video of him chasing an RC car on a camping trip last summer. I guess we can't embed videos here...

https://vimeo.com/68601980

Let's see your furry, feathered, scaly, shelled friends!

This is Murph. Our Bernese Mountain Dog. He is a great character but a bit "needy" as the breed tends to be I think. A lot of fun though. He loves leaning against things. Whatever is there, furniture, the fridge, curtains, your leg, anything will do!

And from a few years ago, Jake and Ben at the beach:

They are no longer with us sadly. Jake lived to be 14, which is a great age for a Goldie. These two dogs had amazing temperaments, fabulous around kids. I think our next dog will be a Golden Retriever again. A great family dog.

Exclamation Warning!

This is a good place as any to issue a warning to all you cat and dog owners. A friend of mine in Nebraska called tonight that he lost his 12 year old pug named Chester to heart and internal organ failure. Reason.... the bean pods from Locust trees in his yard. Come to find out, and unbeknown-st to him and his wife, his dog had aquired a taste for the beans inside. They taste very sweet, humans and other animals can eat them with no problems. But as he found out from the vet, they are deadly for cats and dogs. If you have them in your yard get rid of them asap and play it safe. Mike had been chopping them up and using the pods with beans for mulch. There was a bumper crop of this year from the several Locust trees in his and his neighbor's yards. He said come spring they will be cut down and used as firewood.

Chester was out in the yard with him Fraiday afternoon. Friday night he was acting real funny a throwing up. Walked really slow like he was drunk.... We know what that's like don't we. Well Friday after supper they rushed him to the vet. She started an IV and did some tests. Saturday he was feeling better and peeing like he should. Sunday morning he died from heart and lung failure. There is no cure from the poison in these Locust beans, so be careful if you have any Locust trees near by and your cats and dogs run free.
