yes its different, it doesnt use the plastic adapter on the air cleaner, its made in a wide oval to attach. & they are not reproduced & are very hard to find & expensive if you do. |

Doesn't look right to me. I don't see any electronic connections on it.
I'm betting they switched out the carb and distributer to regular, non electronic units. It's pretty common.

yeah thats definitely a reman'd carb with no #'s on it. also its not an 81 CCC carb, but if this car was a canada export car it would have used the 1980 carb & emissions stuff. can you confirm if its a canada export or a usa sold car? if you cant find a 1981 manual to buy i can probably send you a copy of mine...
the pics dont show it but if its a canada export using the 1980 set up there should be a PEVR valve on the intake manifold near the carb, can you post a pic with the air cleaner off showing the front area of the intake? that is a conjured up air tube too, if you cant find or afford the correct intake tube, what most guys do is use the wide oval plastic adapter for the air cleaner & the standard tube used on 76-79 400/455 cars, at least it will look better than whats on there now. if this is a canada export, then things are a little easier to tune than the 81 CCC system so that could be a good thing for you, unless you really wanted to learn the early pre OBD computer system... i dont think there are too many 301t guys on here but i will try to help as much as i can, but if you plan to own this car for awhile & want to get specific help from 301t gurus, sign up over at 301garage.com, im a long time member there & that group can help with every aspect of these cars. theres also a guy that races these 301t cars & runs low 12sec 1/4 mile times! which is very respectable for these 301t engines that most people call boat anchors. |

the carb is probably "correct" but reman'd carbs are notorious for crappy work & cheap parts & depending when it was bought probably doesnt have ethanol resistant parts. should be easy to rebuild it with the correct kit from cliff ruggles or can send it to any reputable carb rebuilder. theres a member on here that has a carb rebuild business, forgot his name at the moment. also, looking at the carb pics, it looks like the choke flap isnt open all the way. unless that pic was with the engine cold, it should be open all the way... is the 12v wire connected to the choke? & can you test the wire with the key on for 12v or at least with a test light to see if it lights up? |

hard to see much in those pics, strange i dint see the knock sensor in the front area of the intake like 1980 cars should have & dont see the pevr valve... its possible this isnt the original engine or intake?
looks like an 81 intake without the knock sensor. they moved it to the rear of the block for 1981 so you might have a 1981 block or intake. do you know how/where to look for the engine code & vin #? or can you look for the date code on the top of the block near the distributor hole? need to confirm what engine/intake it has to get it back to stock for 1980. |

I actually prefer it that way. I'm not a huge fan of the CCC setup.

but whats strange is in the pics you posted, i dont see the 1980 parts such as the detonation sensor that should be in the center area of the intake, nor do i see the pevr valve. the angle of the pics is hard to see everything in detail though but the knock sensor definitely is not there. so to help confirm these things can you get pics of the area below the distributor, like where the dist clamp is? there should be a ~1" round item threaded into the block in that area with a wire connected to it if its an 81 block. & also a "better" pic of the carb & intake area taken from the front of the car looking down. & can you look for the engine code & vin#? should be stammped on the front pass side of the block under the head & possibly hidden by the rad hose connection. |

i agree the 1980 system is better & easier to tune/troubleshoot than the 1981 CCC. almost gotta be a rocket surgeon to work on the 81 cars! |
