Does anyone know if the air/dam bumper to radiator support closeout from a 69/70 Grand Prix will fit a 72 Grand Prix

Are you speaking of the top plastic triangular cover found under the hood at the front bumper on the 69-70's, or the plastic air dam panel under the car bolted to the radiator support on the 71-72's? The 69-70's & 71-72's are quite different when it comes to the closeout panels & airdams.

It's the plastic piece underneath the front bumper on the 72 GP that bolts to the bumper and to the radiator support that I am trying to match up.

Thanks.

sam,
IIRC they are unique to 71-2. I know it took me a loooong time to find a NOS one when I restored my 72 in the early 1990's. if you can shoot me a part # I'll look it up to see the applications.

this part has me curious now.

the orig and my core buumper for my 72 show no evidence of this filler ever being installed.

my car has had no major collision damage during it's life.

the parts car had an nos front clip on it when i stripped it.

the parts car was a 71 and i'll have to dig to get the build date for my 72.

my ? for someone with a parts manual or crash book from the period, was this only on the hd cooling cars?

sorry for the delay but.......

sam warren was nice enough to send me what appears to be body shop estimate sheets which includes a pic and part # 9790583 - "baffle, support to bumper".

I have been unable to find this part in my master parts book but mine is a 71 edition.

this is a plastic part, v-shaped fwd like the bumper, lays in the bumper, flat to rear, attaches to bottom of core support with approx a 2 inch edge that sticks down slightly like a spoiler.

my 72 SJ with climate control came from the pontiac, mich plant with one of these. it broke being driven over curbs and I had a very difficult time finding a NOS one when the car was restored.

mike,
I reread your post and am not sure what cars had HD cooling. I would venture to say if any had that 'option ' it would be a car like mine with a 455 and climate control. but others with more knowledge should chime in.

you could check the bottom of your core support. if it had the panel from the factory there would be approx 5 - 6 holes for the part.

The plastic baffle is tough to find, but they are out there.

no they won't fit. 71-72 use different bumpers, 69-70 has that lower valance. all i ever saw under a 69-70 gp around the chciagoland area was a rubber strip bolted to the lower core support (69). for sure wouldn't work. i also have a 70 and 72gp.
