Yes it's on the sand core so it shows up there too. Lot's of gains to be made just cleaning things up and a performing a really good valve job. You can see how they barely port match the entry on the intake side. With very little work this could be blended further into the port.
We are going to put a set right out of the box with nothing more than a spring change on the dragster. Then after we baseline that, we'll just touch up what most people would as I mentioned above and hit it again.

If there's a problem, we want to know and report it but we also want to be fair and put correct info in the upcoming magazine article.
First Pic is a close up of the wax (or technically, Irish Spring bar soap, we wanted these cuts to be fresh and clean as a whistle) the Second Pic is with me simply wiping the soap off with a dry blue Scott towel. No issues here!

If you make a product and give people time to find it's weak spots, they can come up with the next generation and improve it every time.
So exactly what improvements do you see the Speedmaster heads have incorporated over the Edelbrock heads?

For one they have almost twice the material in the spring seats before you'd hit water. This is with a 1.800 installed height. .140 for the Eddys and .260 for the Speedmasters. This would allow you to cut the seats .120 deeper and still match the Eddys thickness.

They outflow Eddys as cast and I believe with minimal effort Dave will have some good gains for a very reasonable price.

Of course they've made improvements in manufacturing that save you $1200 a pair in price but it's only money.

I did see one thing that looks like an inclusion, but otherwise they are looking good.

No inclusions, no porosity no casting issues at all. Just some wax from the saw blade. I will actually wipe everything off with a towel before I shoot the pics for the magazine.

I was in a rush to let everyone see the sectioned pieces but I should have wiped them off first.

Thanks.

Did you figure out what the little core plug was for?
Possibly a clean out hole?

The one towards the outside between the intake valves.

Just another area to knock the core sand out of the castings. I'll be tapping these for a pipe plug just to be sure no water gets in the oil!

Think it'ld be nice if you can get aluminum plugs for that and locktite them in.
Wouldn't have to worry about expansion rate or electrolysis of any kind.

Default Valves ?

Why is the ex. valve longer? An old trick,to help with reversion, was to sink the ex. valve .Doing so required a shorter ex. valve or different length push rods.

That is the specs they list. I haven't actually measured them yet.

Missed the last round of slice n dice pics. Which looked really good BTW.

But that hole is where a support leg came through to hold the sand core plugs exactly where they belong. To prevent core plug shift and thin spots. Makes for a more precise and repeatable casting, less defect castings.

Same thing as freeze plug/core plug holes in factory heads and blocks.

You have to give credit to the Australian engineers on these! They did their homework and as much as I wish the castings weren't made in China, the rest of the package seems to be top notch. With the machine work being performed in the U.S. on these heads, they become a competitively priced quality option.

A really good test for the quality of the castings will be to get some of these heads on street cars. Running them through many heat cycles, getting them up to 220-230 degrees F, then letting them cool. Cold starts and run right up to temp and then shut down. Then after many cycles, remove the heads and see how warped and twisted they are. I have no idea how they will do. The LS heads are very lightweight and have huge voids and large water jackets. I have machined the decks on two sets this week. One a set of 5.3's , the other 6.0L. All four heads looked pretty bad but the worst of the 4 cleaned-up very flat with .006" material removal. I hope these Pontiac heads are just as good. The LS heads were factory castings. They were warped in typical potato chip fashion, low in the middle.
