I've just found that one of my 'Firebird' spare mirrors is indeed not from a Firebird. It has the squared-off base and not the tapered end to suit the door side.
This on is late-'77 dated, but still uses the Firebird style mounting bracket rather than twin studs and taller support. It also still uses the Firebird type toggle knob. Anyone here able to identify what it may have come off? I have shown it with a bare casting Firebird mirror support. I have a couple like this but the other is from a 1973 vehicle and X-bodies, as far as I know, still used the Firebird mount and toggle at that point, changing to stud mounting after about '75, from what I can see. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The LH support is 52842. I also have a RH support that matches being 52832, shown with a bare Firebird support casting leaning against it. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Trevor78; 06-05-2023 at 11:01 AM. |

107 views from 107 potential Ventura owners and not one can identify the mirror. What a forum.

Looked at this topic earlier. Will take some time examining Ventura Sport mirrors in next monster yard trip. Have quite a selection of Sport mirrors, but none from the late Ventura.
In stock; '71-72 Pontiac A-body '70's F-body TALL base larger type Sport mirrors: -'73-77 A/ GP Sport mirrors, most likely have another pair. sold a pair last year (customer had them on his 70 GTO, looked like crap). -a '78 Cat-Bonne pass side Remote mirror.

I worked out what it is from, just a piss-weak response from this useless crowd.

Just for future reference, in case questions about X body sport mirrors ever comes up again, the X body sport mirrors are not stud mount. They have a mounting bracket that attaches to the door. It is also X body specific as the ends are “slanted” on F body cars as opposed to “straight” on an X body. The pedestals are X body specific. On my 74 GTO, they are part number 32485 on the drivers side and 32475 on the passengers side. My drivers side has an “X” casted on the bottom side of the pedestal while the passengers side has an “O”. I do not know if all X body sport mirrors have the “X” and “O” casting but the few sets I have ever had did have those markings. An F body mirror’s pedestal is slanted differently to fit the shape of the door. Also, the adjustment cable is shorter on my X body drivers side mirror as opposed to an F body. I believe 71-77 X body cars all interchange if I am not mistaken. It’s a little hard to tell the difference in my pictures of both of my cars but I will attach one as a reference anyway.

Castings of 52832 /52842 do not have the X or O letters but appear to be identical, mine came off 73 and 77 vehicles. My 32485 came off a 76, has the X. All bracket mount.

While we’re on the topic of mirrors…. The passenger side sport mirror on our 1973 Ventura is missing the glass. Will the mirror in the link below fit as a replacement?

Our passenger side mirror is missing, too. I've had a hell of a time finding a replacement that fits.
I tried Burco 2131 and GM p/n 9683157. They were the same size and neither fit. They measured 2 7/8 vert X 5 1/4 dia x 5 3/16" wide. The one off my car measures 2 7/8 vert x 4 7/8 dia x 5-1/2 wide. You can see the comparison in the pic below. The part number for the listing above is Burco 2121, which I haven't tried, but the measurements don't match the one off my car. They list 2121 as 2 7/8 vert x 5- 1/4 dia x 5 1/5 wide so my guess is it won't fit.

I was wrong - Burco 2121 fits perfectly!

Looked into it. Burco 2121 and 2125 should be the replacements, as long as you like the numbers in the mirror.

Having the numbers is better than no mirror, so I'll take it. I did get an OER 9683156 as well, but it's too big.
