put a 4 in stroke in a 389 and you will have a 421.
I vote for a 4 sp. Have to love New Mexico cars, nice and dry. patrick

Looks like a worthy project. I'm not a red fan but that'll look good with the cream.

Looks Great. Is there a particular reason you didn't keep the 8 lugs? They would look great with that color combo.

I am pretty sure I picked up that car in NM and trailered it to Michigan where my friend George delivered it. Not positive but it was a red 62 sedan with 8 lugs. Has to be the same car.
Not sure if it was for you or who you bought it from? How long have you had it? I am thinking I did this in '05? Very cool find and wil be a nice build too. Best to you with it.

I found some pics in my files. Yes, I picked up this car just north of Albuquerque in April of 2005 and hauled it east to either Mi or In area.
There I transfered it off of my trailer to my friend Georges trailer and he continued with it further east. Neat car. I would leave it a single exterior color. Either way, glad to see it going back together!

I'm with Steve, I'm not a fan of two tones, if it were me I would go with a solid color. Red would be a killer. I would go with the 455, as you can make it look 95% like the 389 and most folks can't tell. More power and easier to find parts. Please post pics as you proceed!
Here is a pic of your wheel/tire combo:

I'd go for a solid red, but two tone can look good too - here's a photo of my '61. This is how it came from the factory so I wasn't going to change it, but if I had been the guy who ordered it new I would have stuck with a single color.

One thing I definitely need to get smart about is where to get the right clips to hold all trim onto the body. I mean, I have pulled a lotta '62s apart without intentions to reassemble and the crap I drive is all unrestored original paint stuff...so Ray/62cat, if you don't mind, please post pics of the details of adding the trim to your car.
...From what I have seen, the retaining clips for the Cat side trim, decklid trim and rear quarter stainless are always effed upon removal. For example, in terms of the aluminum trim in the cove, do you put the clip into the trim and then pop it into place? |
