Default Fitting a tacho gauge cluster

Hi All,
I am going to swap out my dash cluster (clock, speedo, temp and oil pressure gauges) and put in the dash cluster with the tacho, speedo and other gauges.
So, the question.
Will the wiring be already there for the tacho or will I have to get it wired in? If there is wiring already there, what colours are the wires?

Your thoughts?

George

the tach wire wont be there, its a seperate wire from the main gauge harness, can use one from another tach'd car though.

also keep in mind the main gauge harness may not be correct to change to the tach/speedo cluster since the formula gauges have the oil/temp in the center, the plug on your current harness is different than whats used for formula tach/speed clusters.

i swapped in formula gauges to my 72 that had the clock/speedo & had to change the entire wire harness from a T/A.

I just converted 2 of these harness from non gauge to gauge harness.
You need the service manual and the fold out schematic in the rear
You will be changing the pins on the harmonica and adding wires and connectors into the harness for
the fuel gauge and volt meter.
You CANNOT use a 70-71 Gauge cluster( in a late 72 or 73) as the Harmonica is different and youll need the harness end of the harmonica connector to make it work, and youll need 2 manuals.
What year is the cluster you want to use? what year is the car/dash harness ?
As stated the tach wire is on its own and Ames sells them separate.
The gauge harness is about $350 USD

when i changed the harness i used one from a 74 t/a & its matching gauge cluster, i swapped over my original 72 speedo to keep correct mileage. was easier than modifying it & i already had the harness & gauges.

Hi Bruce,
I'm not sure what year the used cluster is out of as I bought it from you about 18 months ago. I know we discussed my car and the year model though.
Thanks for all this info.

It could have a date stamp on the plastic circuit board on the rear, or does it have seat belt warning. I dont recall shipping one to AU, but a picture could tell ya what you need to do good luck !

I had a look at the used cluster I have and see that it is out of a '77. I have spoken to my auto electrician and together he says we will sort it out. Thanks for all the info everyone.

Hi All,
just an update.
I had the dash cluster fitted by my electrician and it is perfect. He didn't have any trouble wiring up the tacho and everything works as it should. It apparently wasn't as much trouble as I expected.

Thanks for your advice.
