Default Cleaning up original drive shaft

I pulled the original driveshaft out of my 67 . What would be the best way to clean this up . It’s in really nice condition and I can still see two yellow stripes going around it .i did put new u joints in it then thought I shoulda cleaned it up first . I could always take them back out to clean it .

If you want to go down to bare metal and repaint, get an angle grinder and a stripping disc like so:

It'll make quick work of it and give you a nice smooth surface to paint.

I sand blasted mine first, then held it up to a wire wheel on my bench grinder to even it out. After I clear coated it I replaced the U-joints.
But, if I had one of those stripping wheels and a hand held grinder I would have used it.

This chart is from the '67 SM but '66 is the same for MT applications;

Please excuse me for hacking your thread but can you tell me where the stripe goes, what paint and how wide is the stripe? Mine would take the single white band.

Evaporust is actually probably the best way. I just did one last week. 12 hours soaking and it was clean.
