I've stopped making plans to go to Norwalk. Every time I do something happens. This year, I have my aunt in rehab PLUS they rushed my SIL to the hospital with sepsis, abnormally high A1C and low potassium. My wife is down there until further notice so someone has to watch the dogs.....

I just looked up the NHRA rules and they have tightened them up. 13.49 and below now require a roll bar in a convertible. No real way to but one in the car and keep it streetable, looks like I may be spectating.
Yea, that convertible rule was a major factor in me selling my 66 2+2 convertible. 421 HO 4-speed was capable of those numbers on slicks, running 13.60's on street tires with 093 heads. I wasn't going to cut up a very rare car, (one of 208 produced with the HO and 4-speed and convertible), to drag race it a couple times a year at an NHRA track. It's a bit foolish to require a roll bar at that those times when a new Honda Civic will crack into the 13's and is made is tissue paper. Almost any new car, truck or SUV will be close to 14.0 or even quicker with the top engine available 100% stock. This includes plenty of convertibles. Many are much, much faster without roll bars. I have no problem with the helmet rules, they don't ruin the car.

The NHRA has made a statement on this. Their reasoning is that the new cars have air bags and ABS. It still doesn't make me happy about it but rules are rules and its their sandbox.

That is probably fair reasoning. No argument. As an old fart, I still think a drag racing experience in a mid 12-13 second flat car, convertible or not, would be running under 117-119 at the finish and should not require a roll bar. But like you said, I don't make the rules, so rather than cut up a rare car I let a different owner make the decision what to do with it. It's certainly possible to be seriously injured or killed in a 15 or 16 second car if the car is garbage in the hands of a bad driver or some weird mechanical failure. I am sure NHRA's insurers are happy with their decisions.

We will be there in swap meet spot 34 on Friday & Saturday. No Sunday this year. Been there several years now. Looking to sell everything. I've been doing vending long enough.

Well my car does have air bags & anti lock brakes, but it is a convertible, does that mean it can run?
