The Next Generation
I posted in the 64-65 section, but figured I'd share here. I bought a 65 Tempest Custom 4 door for my 12 year old son. He's been dying to get a car to work on. This car sat in a local junkyard for about 23 years. 326/auto for now; plans are to get it running as is for now. Future plans to swap in a 4 speed, and he insists he wants a 389 tripower (that will be on his dime later).
I'm not sure who's more excited, him or his father!

Good for him! I have two daughters (21 & 18) and neither have (or want) a driver's licence.

HA! I'd venture to speculate it's a rather mutual feeling between the both of you.
Sounds as if he's been exposed to some very interesting aspects of our Ponchos. Congratulations, that's great, electrical, wrenching, bodywork, plenty to learn. Frank

Like me and my grandson, 77 Camaro LT, one owner 18,000 Miles. He insisted on buying it with his own money.

That smile says it all! Good to see this.

Some of the best times I have with my son is when we are working on our car together. It took a year before we had it roadworthy. At times we were wondering what we got ourselves into. But we never got stuck and never gave up. Character building for sure. Have fun!

Can't think of a better way to keep a young man focused and out of trouble.
Be sure to teach him some of the science behind the how's and why's of doing things. |

My 3 1/2 year old daughter is already helping me. She opened the door the other day and looked at the gutted interior and dash and said “poor car”

Good to see a youngster digging on an old school car. My first Pontiac was a '65 Lemans with 326 auto. I dreamed of upgrading to a GTO the whole time I had it.
Nice back drop in the photo too. |
