Trunk emergency lights?
Were these lights an option for the trunk?

Best bet for info, is to post the year and car and your question in the correct tech forum., you’re more likely to get your answer there.

Had a 69 GTO I bought 2yrs old up in Port Vue, and it had one mounted inside the truck, on the lid.
I do believe they've turned up on a lot of different Pontiacs over the years. (Used to live in N. Versailles Twp.)

They were options on full size cars through most of the 1960s, the one with the clear lens was mounted on the trunk lid and the one with the partial red lens was mounted under the hood on one of the inner fender wells. I don't know if they were available in intermediate cars or Firebirds.

Don't know when they stopped being offered but they were avail in '66 & '67 on the B-Bodies,
I have never seen one on an A-Body from the Factory in those years.

Jeff,
From what I've read they were for the B-body cars. I never saw one on an A-body or F-body either, trunk or under hood.. As I said in my other post it just happens to fit on the 64 A-body trunk lid. I did a quick search of 65+ A-body trunk lids and none that I saw had the triangular mounting provision. No reference to this light in the GTO restoration guide either. |

Originally, this handy light was just a B series option, but reel out lights made it under the hoods of the fresh redesigned '69 GP's. Believe '70 was the last year they were avail as a factory option. The early underhood versions had the tall glass partially painted insert, while later 60's underhood versions used the same flat style glass as the the rear reel out lights. Began pulling these in the early '80's. My Dad always like to add them under the hood to our family's 70's GP's & Chevy pickups & they were something I couldn't pass by.

My first 66 GTO had the light under the hood... without the red on it. They were a factory option.... as was the trunk light. The build sheet should tell you it came from the factory.... if you have a build sheet that has survived thru the years.

Yea used to pull those in the early 80's, and amazed to not have or seen one in use for over decade.
i remember one trunk lamp had a very long cord. |

So I'm guessing then on the later models holes had to be drilled to mount the light?

I picked up a few from the pick-a-parts in the 80's, but my 67 GTO trunk lid not only didn't have the mounting dimples but it also didn't have the depth or a decent location to sneak one in.

Forgot I had Accessory Brochures for '68 & '69 as well.
The '68 Brochure states availability in ALL models except FIREBIRD but the '69 does not.

My 56 station wagon had the one with the red lens mounted on the firewall, with a push-button switch activated by opening the hood.

Don't know if they were available in the 1940's but you could get them all through the 1950's.

They were designed by Pontiac so we could help our Ford buddies fix their car and get home before curfew.

The flat clear glass version is operated by a mercury switch so it turns on when you open the trunk lid.
The red taller glass version is switched on by opening the hood. However it does not have the mercury switch. It has a push type switch mounted on a bracket very close to the distributor. The problem with that is the lamp is always on when the hood is open. It was marketed as a safety lamp with the red side for use while changing wheels etc. But the red version was marked in the sales catalogue for Station Wagons. Remember, you could not order a trunk light type for a station wagon.

My '62 Grand Prix, '65 GTO and '66 Grand Prix all had them mounted to the underside of the deck lid. All 3 cars had original paint.
