Aftermarket dash gauges
Hi All,
I am thinking about changing out all my dash gauges with aftermarket ones. Has anyone done this and if so, what brand did you use? Pics and measurements would be great. |

Basically, if you have an A/C car, you lose the 2 center vents if you install a full set of individual gauges.
But you can look at the Thunder Road inserts, they allow you to look at diff gauges installed. http://classicdash.com/product/1970-...-meter-gauges/ You have to wire them, either tap into the OE harness, or run separate wires. Either is not a bad job. If you wanted, believe several companies offer larger gauges that will fit better in the existing holes of the OE insert, and they make them with up to 4 gauges in one housing (quad gauges). .

Speedhut Gauges. Easiest install for 2nd gens. They're 1 inch thick and light enough to mount directly to the bezel with a large Nut on the back, as the gauges are threaded.
They come with their own harness built in, and they can be daisy chained together with pin connectors that are already installed. You can plug them up directly to the fuse block with an add a fuse. They make them with multiple gauges built into one gauge, or just individual gauges, so you could retain your center AC vents if you want. Oh and they're 100% customizable. www.speedhut.com

Here are two pics of the Speedhut Gauges I put in my TA.
They are LED. You could even make them look factory style if you wanted.

Speedhut. build em how you want em. I paid extra to remove the speedhut logo as well for a factory look but far better love the quarter mile et mode and built in shift light in the tach.

Hi All,
This is great info. I've checked out Speedhut and really like their range. I live in Australia so am wanting the speedo to be in kilometres per hour not miles per hour and they do a gauge set to suit. Now, my question. Can you please tell me the measurements of the gauges that will fit into my standard dash? I think the speedo and tacho are 3 3/8 " and the other gauges are 2 1/16". Am I correct? I've worked with New Vintage Gauges for my Cutlass project. Their customer service is EXCELLENT. They recently corrected some issues on gauges that were well out of warranty - they did not charge me anything, not even shipping.
I've thought about contacting them about some direct-fit T/A gauges.

Has anyone fitted the Speedhut gauges with the GPS speedo? I am interested to learn how the antenna is mounted and if it is easy to fit and connect and if it works well.

I just received my Speedhut gauges. I got the 4 1/2” speedo and tach because the bezels are the same size as the originals. The holes will need to be trimmed slightly for them to fit, however. I hate to trim my original bezel so I might use a later “RTS” bezel instead. Might try filling the holes before sending it to Randy for restoration. Has anyone ever done that? The 2 1/16” gauges fit directly in the existing holes with no modifications.
Speedhut was very good to work with on the design process. If anyone is interested in doing this, they use Adobe Illustrator in their graphics department and the have some blank templates on their website. Just send them your file and they’ll make the gauges with your graphics. I’m no graphic designer, I don’t know how many hours I spent trying to get mine to look the way I wanted. They’re still not perfect but I’m happy with them. |
