Default Admins - Dispense with the ‘Not Mine’ and Referencing Posts

Dear Admins,

I dunno if other members agree or not, but I’m personally at my wits end with the ‘Not Mine’ posts and referring posts that the poster has no affiliation. Could you please consider (FOR ALL CLASSIFIEDS FORUMS) a ‘Sticky’ or embed into Forum Rules, to clamp down on these ‘pseudo’ posts ?

They’re ultimately offering non-members ‘Free Advertising’. The ‘postee’ ought to have ‘Equitable Interest’ in a car or part fort sale. These posts fly in the face of what this forum is all about (i.e. Members helping Members), not free exposure for erroneous cars and parts.

It’s frustrating (As a ‘Paying’ Forum Member’) to subscribe to a forum (I subscribe to certain forums to receive daily emails) only to chase down a non-viable post. I’ll venture to say, the vast majority of the cars and parts posted, never come to any fruition.

With that said, I believe the ‘Listing For A Friend’ fall into the same bucket. I understand these are borderline, but again, if one has no equity in a vehicle or part then they shouldn’t be allowed.

I understand why folks do it; Because they have passion for all things Pontiac; However, the posts are rather annoying in the scheme of things.

May I suggest a ‘VOTE’ and whatever the Members decide, then that’s the law ?

Yes, I’m cranky about it...

Best Regards,
Dave - GTO3DEUCES

Dear Mr. Administrator, I don't recall ever having paid anything to be a forum member. Has there been ever been a requirement to pay to be a member of this forum???

Has anyone paid to be a member of this forum?

I'm a paying member, as is obviously the original poster. It gets you access to certain added features (I use the online parts database quite a bit) and also helps support the forum. You don't have to pay to participate at the basic level, there's no problem with that.

If I was in the market for a car, I would appreciate people here linking cars for sale.
I see it as helpful.
Can I ask an obvious question(?);
If you don't like the listings, why are you in the classifieds?

A: If I knew about the extra added bonus of a donation, I would be game. How did your marketing Gurus let this one slip??
B: The "not mine & other links are WAY more worth while than the same part having 5 pages of bumps going back 4 YEARS or the guy MISTAKENLY believing that He ( or She) needs to start the same thread in 6 FORUMS!
Viva los Ponchos!
Peace- out!

I will agree that the same thread in multiple places can be annoying - but I guess that's the risk of using the "new posts" button rather than going to your usual hangout...

granted I have done it once, but when I did, the threads were not verbatim repeats of each other - I personalized for each subforum (I was looking for specific information);

I think the posting of cars, parts and Pontiac related information is one of the hallmarks of this site. Listing as "Not Mine" alerts the reader that the item in question doesn't belong to them but was interesting enough they wished to share and not have it lost to possibly many Pontiac people. I see nothing wrong with that. Possibly there could be a requirement that the "Not Mine" tag be in the title. That way people wishing to skip those threads can do so more easily. I personally appreciate many of the "finds" by other members that are not theirs. Also the comedy relief from for threads like "The Craigslist ad of the Day" Thank God members here don't own any of them!

Where do you draw the line? Would it be ok to sell something for your father? How about your Son? Grandson? Best friend? I think limiting it only opens a can of worms! If you do that I will only have to say my friend's part/car is mine. Don't see how it could help.

Personally I appreciate other people posting links to something I might want even if they are not selling it.

It's kind of like a free filter, most people are knowledgeable and post parts, cars etc. that are of interest to Pontiac people and is a good find, or a good price.

A guy might see some rare RA parts for sale somewhere else that no one here would ever know about if someone didn't post a link to the ad.

It amazes me what types of things people can get upset about. I posted a '67 HO 400 Firebird for sale a few years ago...NOT MINE...and one of the members here wound up buying it. He never would have gotten the car if I, or someone, hadn't posted here. That's why I did it. I wanted a Pontiac lover to get it.
