He stopped racing in 1971-72 due to the shop fire that destroyed all of his racing operation (including original Boss Bird) and all of his farm equipment. He was in financial survival mode until somewhere around 1990 when he dipped his toe back in the growing nostalgia racing trend.

The 2003 Tameless Tiger nitrous fire hurt him badly but he recovered and got back in the drivers seat again.

Details will emerge.

Thank you, gentlemen.

You had questions.

They will have answers, when the time is right.

They really didn't post anymore info than I did but whatever.

I also didn't have any questions, just suggested other people in the know post updates if appropriate.

I also mentioned what was obvious and that is that no one posted about it for days until I did. I guess Arnie just means more to me than some.

Terrible news. Wishing the best for the Beswick family. The man is a historical icon, IMO.

Well that's a bit of a 'negative-Nelly' take on this.

Maybe members here who are close to him posted nothing about this because they either chose to speak directly to him, or they could empathize with what he must be going through, and chose to be quiet.

Sometimes people need time to process.

I spoke up because this discussion was started, but I wasn't going to start a discussion about someone I don't personally know;
I didn't want to seem disrespectful of a big name in our community, and I figured that information would come out in due time.
If it means anything, thanks for spearheading this discussion.

Sorry. I wasn't targeting you or any particular person, just stating that for a guy as big as Arnie is to Pontiac, not one person said a word about the tragedy. Yeah, I could have pressed him for more info but saw he was really hurting so out of respect, I didn't. Arnie said what he said out of his own free will and told me more than what I mentioned, but that was between me and him. I told him how I felt and he was very appreciative for it. It made me sad to see that man like he was as I am too used to Arnie always giving me crap about having a BBC in my Fiero.

As far as not being acknowledged for starting this thread...... I was not looking for credit as this thread is about Arnie not me, but I did take exception to the fact that 2 people basically said the same thing I did and was thanked. That was B.S. but I do realize where I'm at.

I'm sure I'm not alone in just now looking at these forums, after the drive home, unloading the trailer and Suburban, catching up with family affairs, etc.

"... days..." ???

By the way- I don't "hide out" at Norwalk (or anywhere else)- do you? I don't recall anyone introducing themselves to me as "Chief of the 60's".

If you want to assist Arnie, I'd suggest you buy something he sells, like tshirts/etc.

Suffering from a fire is something I would not wish on anyone. Fire is very, very mean and if you have not experienced it, then it would be difficult to understand. I have suffered through 2 devastating fires myself and have lost a lot and was under insured so, I can personally relate to this. I feel so bad for him having to go through that. Am very sorry to learn of this.

When Arnie was injured in the nitrous fire (2003), it was just a week or so before Norwalk so there were collections taken up at Norwalk to help him get back on his feet financially. Since this happened during Norwalk no one was able to react quickly enough to do this. I have no idea of how to do a Go Fund Me collection, but if someone was familiar with how it's done it would be a great gesture to Arnie to have someone do this in his name.

If people will give nearly half a million dollars to a rightfully fired FBI agent, there ought to be enough people to donate a few dollars here and there in the racing community to help someone that is really in need after a fire.
