I figured as much. Looks like a turd burger. LOL

Commercials lie big time just to get you suckered in. Like Subway showing this great looing sub filled with goodies. And then when you buy one it's missing 80% of what you saw in the commercial. Whatever happened to "truth in advertising"? Do they think and know we're that stupid, and will fall for their false advertising crap?

The whole CO2 greenhouse thing is a total hoax that doesn't pass simple science logic. But if CA really wants to reduce carbon footprint, they would do better by taking the private jets away from all the pompous celebrities.

(For the record, I've got nothing against private jets....it's just the "do as I say, not as I do" celebrities annoy me).

Burger King and others have put a huge amount of money into marketing this "burger" . The primary point that the commercials keep hammering is that this plant and chemical concoction tastes "just like a hamburger"! Unless you have a health condition that doesn't allow you to eat meat, if you want something that tastes like a hamburger, why the hell don't you just go out and buy one? If you don't want to eat meat, be a real vegetarian and eat vegetables that taste like vegetables.

I ate one the day they came out (Aug 6th) and have eaten probably 5 of them since then I had one today because the store I frequent was out of grilled chicken until their delivery came in today. I eat at Burger King at least 5 days a week and just today I overheard a guy proclaiming how close in taste he thought it was compared to the beef version.

You ask 5 people, and you'll get 5 different answers.

I know the owners of the BK chain locally and the manager, they are selling really well, so someone is buying them.

For the record, White Castle, Hardee's/Carls Jr. have been selling the same meat substitute for awhile now, BK is far from the first chain selling the Impossible Meat substitute. It's going to be sold soon by a major grocery chain within a year.

Is it exactly like beef, I'd say no, but I still enjoy eating it. One other fact people think it's healthier than beef, it's not. Higher in fat than beef, higher in sodium than beef, higher in carbs than beef, so it's not healthier as far as nutrition goes. It's a short term menu item so it will be going away probably before the end of this year.

I haven't tried the Impossible burger but you can buy the Beyond Meat patties ate your local supermarket and Grill em just like regular beef except you grill for a shorter time.

The taste is pretty close according to alot of people and the texture is similar. The beauty of buying the patty is that you make the burger the way you like ..you just replace the patty .

Other companies sell decent patties too just have to find the one you like...

Peace.

I'm sure if you ate wet newspaper for a week, that burger might've tasted just like real meat. I must admit that I find myself somewhat hesitant to buy burgers from places that sell fake meat. I mean, would you buy a genuine [pick an item] from a shop that also sells counterfeits?

My youngest daughter is vegan and in time, I'm sure she's going to try it. Me, not a chance.

I heard that it took a while for the govt to approve. That in itself would keep me away. Not to mention im not too crazy about eating a 'chemical burger'. Im sure the 'beef' burgers every where else are that great but at least one thinks it may be meat. I typically only eat chicken at fast food anyway. Most of the burgers only stay with me for about 5 minutes
If you want to be adventurous, theres a hidden gem at Arby's. I used to do service work for them and in a couple of the restaurants, located in the back area was the recipe for a sandwich they called the "meat mountain". It had a couple of everything, was pretty ridiculous. Its not on the menu but if you ask they will make it.

The bulk of the impossible meat is soy and potato, it's not cooked up in a test tube.

Quote:
The Impossible Burger is totally safe to eat,” spokeswoman Rachel Konrad said in an email. “The heme in the Impossible Burger is identical to the heme humans have been consuming for hundreds of thousands of years in meat. Nothing is more important to Impossible Foods than the health and safety of our customers.”
Brown says that in taste tests, half of consumers prefer the Impossible Burger to a real one. The burger does look a bit like the beef version. Once you get your mouth around it, though, the differences are more apparent. Vegetarians who crave a taste of beef may be pleasantly surprised, but meat eaters won’t be fooled.

Whether or not the Impossible Burger is the answer, beef certainly isn’t, said Ricardo Salvador, director of the food and environment program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.
If Impossible Foods “is successful with what they’re doing and people accept it, the environmental load they’ll be removing is such that the benefits would be innumerable,’’ Salvador said.
The Heme is the ingredient that makes it taste like meat. The same Heme is available in plan based foods with less land and water usage than farming beef cattle, lots less, 95% less land use, and 75% less water use. It's a more efficient use of farmland, and makes it attractive to the environmentalists (treehuggers). Go figure that Impossible Meat is headquartered in CA and has many Silicon Valley investors behind them.

Heme was the FDA hangup because the FDA considers it a color additive even though it's in meat already. We all know what happened to red M&Ms many, many, years ago. The manufacturer has to prove that Heme is safe for the IM to be sold in raw form, such as hamburger. If the meat is precooked by the manufacturer it's not an issue to sell it as it's no longer red in color.

If a statute has no logical/commonsense purpose, it was probably adopted by the federal government. But before it was a federal law it was a state law in CA.

BK has vege-burgers on their menu, and occasionally I order one of those. I can tell you the Impossible Meat is ten times better than the vege-burger is. The manufacturer in the quote above tells you a meat eater won't be fooled by the taste, but it's light years ahead of a vege-burger.

I suppose burgers have been the main diet of lots of Americans, for a long time, especially young folks. When the other folks were eating burgers, I always got a fish sandwich, with nothing but fish & tarter sauce.

Don't buy sandwiches of any kind, now. BUT, I do still love pizza, & have since I first tasted it, when I was 18. My Mom cooked most all our meals, while we were still in school. And we didn't have a pizza place in our hometown. My first pizza was from Shakey's, in Baton Rouge, LA. Later worked for nearly 3 years at Pizza Inn, in Monroe, LA. On the days I worked there, I ate nothing but pizza. Never got tired of it. My favorite, now, is Pizza Hut Italian sausage & pepperoni, on a hand tossed crust. And I especially love their all-you-can-eat buffet !

Also love ice cream, especially good soft serve & chocolate shakes. Yeah, I know--pizza & ice cream is not a real healthy diet. But then, a double bacon cheeseburger ain't either.

PS: Just thought of another junk food that I REALLY love. Fresh made, still warm, plain glazed donuts. I use to eat a dozen & a quart of milk, for breakfast, on a regular basis. Can't think of many foods that could be much worse for you. They're nothing but grease, sugar, & white flour. For that reason, I VERY seldom ever eat 'em nowadays. I've only eaten 1, in the last year. But it's not because I wouldn't have loved to. I suppose that if I'd always eaten everything I wanted, I'd have died many years ago, weighing several hundred lbs more than I do now. I reckin some of us enjoy eating, more than others. I've seen lots of people who seemed to eat as quickly as possible, just to get it over with, as if it was just something they had to do, to stay alive. I like to sit down, have something I really like, eat slow, & enjoy it.

If I eat a burger, most times it's 80/20 and I'm grilling it. I do like a Jack's (small local chain) bacon cheeseburger or a Wendy's single. In both of those cases, it could be the drink sucking me in. Wendy's Frosty or a Jack's shake, hand made with Blue Bell ice cream.
I like my vegetables in a form I can recognize and as a side to real meat.

Im 55, when we were kids we didn't know what fast food or even convenient stores were. All of our meals were home cooked, and lunches were brown bag packed. We did have pizza though. That was our treat on Monday nights watching MASH. I really like Pizza Hut, but that stuff to pizza is about what McD's is to burgers. We have a dozen Mom n Pop stores within a stones throw that put them to shame. I particularly like Chicago Deep Dish, but outside of CHI town its hard to get.

With the right amount of salt & pepper - i can probably eat newspaper or cardboard, in a pinch. Or cardboard slices with newspaper in the middle - as a sandwich.
Probably a little mayo would make it better too.

McDonalds burgers don't seem to be an actual meat product anymore.
Hardly ever buy fast-food for many years now, unless its a Cook-Out.

As a kid, various parents from time to time would load a car full of us neighborhood kids to go to McD's - Just for French Fries - only !
As a Treat
And they were Grrreeeaaatttt [insert tony the tiger voice]

Past 20 years i won't eat them if they delivered them to my door for free.
Everything they sell is crapsh1t now

Fast-Food /Junk Food used to be "food".
Now its just Fast-Junk
