Default Leaking gas filler neck

A month or two ago I dropped my gas tank to replace the filler neck rubber intermediate hose. I replaced it with a part from PY.

After install, with new hose clamps, it STILL leaks when I fill up.

Have any of you used a longer piece of hose, like radiator hose so that you can get a better clamp on it?

Unless I have a hole or crack on the filler neck that I didn't notice, I figure that it must be the rubber hose. I am not a fan of leaving a pizza sized gas puddle every time I put gas in it.

Thx!

Might be cracked at the filler neck into the tank.

I'm of no help on the rubber hose seeing that I have a '69. However my factory tank does leak slightly at the seam where the filler neck meats the body of the tank.

You could take a look there.

I had the tank completely out, and welded a small crack elsewhere. I didn't see one at the tank entrance. It only had a small dent on the lip that I reasoned would be fine.

Hmmm.... Maybe time to run it out and drop it again. Grr!

I got a spare tank out of convertible if you need it, it's yours.

Thanks, dude. I am going to drive the wheels off to empty current tank of gas, then drop it again. Maybe I missed something. I can't believe a brand new hose and improved clamps could have it still leaking.

Hey Squidward -
How did you solve this problem? Or have you been tolerating leakage for the last five years like I have?
My 68 filler neck leaks too, even after a new tank, new hose, new clamps, and using Hylomar sealer.
Maybe I over-tightened and ovaled the neck.
Tom

Mine was leaking out of the sending unit. Gasket failed. I rekon this was one of the first places you looked, but thought I'd mention it anyway.
