With the camaro style splitter installed the baffle doesn’t do anything aero-wise for you. The splitter is creating a low pressure area behind it, before the baffled which is designed to creat a low pressure area behind it. What it does do however is keep that low pressure area from pulling cool air out of the front end where it needs to be to flow across the radiator.

In short, even with a splitter in front of it, you still want it in place.

So I installed it on Saturday. I located the inner fender hoes - they just needed some coercing. Overall, I like the piece and I didn’t have to drill any new holes.

Any improvement in cooling?

Mine already cooled pretty well and in my short drive after installing it I didn't really notice a difference. I hope to evaluate further this upcoming weekend.

That's where I got mine. The metal ones are way to expensive when I'm not doing a stock restoration.

My 69 TA was missing the baffle (and the air dam that bolts to it of course). I ordered an original steel nice used one on eBay and it bolted in with no issues. I wonder what the factory application of these baffles were? I think all 400's had them as well as all 350 (2 or 4bbl) cars with AC.

My Sprint had the upper baffles but not a lower one. The car is virgin enough that it clearly never had the lower baffle and the upper baffles had the identical patina and correct hardware so I'm sure they were factory also.

Has anyone else seen a factory install of the upper baffles but not the lower?

I just looked it up in the MPC (nov 69)

Lower baffle is actually called (Baffle, front panel to sheet metal) and it lists it for 6cyl with AC and all V8. Pn. 9796251

Interestingly there is another number for the baffle for Ram Air cars (9798498). It is almost 4 times the price and I suspect they meant to say The Trans Am, it probably included the air dam.

I also looked up the upper baffles (officially called: Filler, cross brace). Pn is 9794808-9 for RH &LH).
It shows application as being all AC and all 400.

My experience is that cooling baffles, shrouds etc always had murky application rules. I suspect the application criteria changed during the model year as additional testing altered the need for their use.

So I've had the plastic PP version installed for a few weeks. Had to do 4 small trims to make it work with my spoilersbyrandy front lower air damn but it fits great.

It has made such a tremendous difference in cooling going down the highway I felt compelled to revisit this thread to post about it. I can't say that it does anything in city traffic, but WOW what an improvement in highway! Soon as I get on the highway now the temp cools down faster than ever. This is a must for anyway who drives in a warmer climate of has more than a stock engine which could use extra cooling.

So I test fitted the valance baffle on my 67 about 15 times grinding little by little until I was happy with the fitment. Then put several coats of paint so my boys and I could install this weekend. I also fitted the aluminum air baffle and/or front spoiler onto the valance baffle and drilled all the holes after triple checking. My boys wanted to cover the front spoiler with stickers, so all the stickers were related to the car or a car experience in some way, parts, car show, etc....
