Default 72 LeMans/GTO accelerator pedal rod

Helping a friend install the kickdown switch in his 72 LeMans. Its a Canadian built LeMans with the Chevy 350 and a TH350. Picked up a kickdown bracket and switch from my 72 parts bin. The bracket fits, but the accelerator pedal rod wont reach the kickdown plunger to activate the switch even with the pedal to the floor.

See how far the rod is from the switch? The stamped part number on the rod is 3972675, which is a Chevrolet Chevelle part number. Not the same as in my 72 GTO but the bracket is the same. What's the deal? He swears that his car is mostly original, and I believe him. Do we need a Chevrolet kickdown bracket and switch then?

If somebody can post a picture of a 72 LeMans/GTO accelerator rod/pedal, that would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to compare with mine just to be sure I have the correct one in my car.

Is that rod reproduced for our cars?

Accel Pedal ROD used with T400 is different than uses with T350. '72 T400 Rod is one year (am currently out of extras).

The accel pedal ROD for '72 v8 turbo 350 application is also, all by itself, one year (have at least one low mile example)

Thanks. Forgot to mention, he has a TH400 in the car. The 350 is in storage.

Here are some pictures. Hope it helps. I didn't have a tape measure with me, but I would estimate the rod is probably 1 1/4" away from the kick down lever

Thanks, and sorry for the late reply.

That confirms he doesnt have the correct pedal rod in his car. Mine is the same as pictures above.

And according to oPH, a one year only rod for 72/T400. Good luck finding that! Does it still have the Chevy 350 in it?
