Default 1969 Trans Am fender air extractors

I am going to buy the reproduction air extractors because I love the look but I also am interested in making them functional. The car is sorta custom so I'm not too bothered by cutting up what I need to cut up, I think it's worth it for the functionality.

Does anyone make a kit with the parts and templates to make reproduction functional 1969 Trans Am fender vents?

Thanks!

Alex

There is a member here (John Haley) who makes them in carbon fiber and I think in fiberglass
as well.

Are you referring to the giant air tube that goes from the inside of the fender thru the inner fender (is that how they work?)? I'll look him up, thanks!

EDIT: Ok looks like he just makes the hoods and vents. I have sourced vents, I just need to know how to make them functional for extracting heat from the engine bay. Like where to cut into the fender etc.

Thanks!

Absolutely it does, thank you! I've never seen how this system was configured from the inside out so I have no clue how to reproduce it. Pics seem difficult to come buy.

Thanks!

Alex

I have a 100 % spot on correct template if you need it. You will use one of the factory existing holes and drill three new ones once you cut the openings. As an FYI, there is no ducting in the front fenders, just the openings. Tim john---

Send me your mailing address and on Monday I'll make you a copy and send it off. You will match up one hole and level the template so the top horizontal line of the opening is parallel with the ground, trace out and then make your cuts. If you provide an email address I can send you some pictures on exactly how to do this. Tim

Multiple photos sent to your email address from start to finish. I find it much easier to cut from the backside (inside) of the fender. I used masking tape over the cut area, place the template over the tape, align with one hole, trace out in pen then with my pneumatic die grinder and a very thin cut off wheel I follow the inside of my lines and fine tune with a hand file for a perfect dimension. Once complete take your extractors and heat them pretty warm/hot along the seam between the two ducts and over bend it (it will be slightly pliable) and now take the warm/hot extractor & align the mounting studs and hold the extractor against the fender tight and as it cools it will take the fenders profile. Protect your raw edge's from the cut with epoxy primer and paint the background flat black like Boss's photo above. Tim john---

Robert, PM replied to and I have a template ready to go out in todays mail for you.

As an FYI, I found it much easier to lay the template on the backside of the fender to trace out the cut lines, flatter surface.

1969 Trans Am Fender Air Extractors Template.

I added a few dimensions so when you print it out you can scale it on a photocopier.

Thanks to Tim for the template and sharing with all of us.

All, You will find it much easier to lay out the template on the inside of the fenders to trace the openings, a much flatter surface to work with. One template fits both fenders, just flip the template over for each fender.

Thanks Dirk, for posting the template for future reference.
