Trying to assemble the ultimate 4 speed shifter to work with console
As the title says I am trying to assemble a 4 speed shifter that will work in the console of my 66 GTO. This is a street strip car, so I need a few more performance features. I want to use an original style stick (Round bar), but I also want a modern box with the adjustable shift stops. I also want to use the HD rods that Hurst no longer makes. Do any of you have any experience with this?? I am sure that I am not the only one who has tried this before. My questions are:
What modern shifter box (part number), and plate do I need to work with a console?? I am not afraid to take one of my 66 GTO shifters and cut the bottom off and tig weld a piece on so that I can use the 2 bolts to fasten stick onto the box as opposed to the original slot. I can always re-chrome the stick after welding. What HD rods can I use? I know they made a completion plus version and a super shifter version, but I don't want the gate messed up so that it hits the console. I know Performance Years sells a shifter similar to the one I am outlining, but without the hd rods. It is also very pricey. I have a ton of 4 speed shifters laying around, so I am trying to use the best from all of them to piece together a very nice shifter for my 66. Any help would be appreciated. |

Also has anyone ever tried one of the Hurst Billet Body 4 speed shifters in a console?Modified of course to accept the original handle. I am stuck on it being original looking. I know they advertise this shifter as the ultimate 4 speed shifter.
