I understand why the Frantic 4 was cut down from 1/4 mile to 1/8th mile. Over the last several years, the field has been small and the breakage high at the event. I also understand that the 4 qualifiers need to be able to make their rounds and give the fans side by side racing during eliminations. I can say from experience it is Much, Much, easier on the hardware to run 1/8 mile than 1/4 mile. On the funny car, probably 75%+ of the breakage came after the 1/8th mile. So I get it.

Maybe it's my age, but 1/8 mile drag racing is cute. It's not real drag racing though to me. If our Pontiac engines can't run a 1/4 mile , we need to work harder, not make the race easier.

So I want to congratulate Ed and his crew, his engine builders and associates for "going for it" in 1/4 mile drag races. Keep up the effort and we will be watching.!

Thanks for the extra info on the Frantic 4 racing. (1/8th mile)

I was told that the track restricted the 1/4th mile to 1/8th mile for those cars.

Good Job Ed and team on your new personal best 1/4th mile track pass.

Tom V.

Hi Jack,

We made 6 passes, pushed of the track Sunday on the 7th due to sensor malfunctions "safety kill" that shut the engine off. Seems we has a sensor ground fault that caused fuel pressure to drop and a few other temp sensors to read hot.

I saw on one run you had a 1.21 60 ft. against a 1.08 from your competitor. But by 330 ft. you were well ahead of him. If you can work on that launch, you would greatly improve your ET, obviously. Plenty of power. Does the car spin or is it just leaving soft? I know turbo cars are very difficult, to get just right at the starting line.

Hi Mike,

Leaving soft, ~8.8-9lb of boost. We'll work on building boost on the t-brake without cooking the transmission. Our target is ~18lb on the launch. The current tune is taking ~5 seconds to hit ~8lb.

You will get there with more runs. Not going to the starting line on Kill is probably what has you still in the game. Measured approach. Be safe and fast!

After Norwalk, we took the top end off after seeing AFR lean on the passenger side. Checked the usual stuff, O2 sensor, lash, coils, plugs wires, injectors and then a compression test. Multiple cylinders were low, the worst #4 and #6 were at ~30psi, all others were also lower than expected. Both head gaskets looked great. The intake and exhaust valve seats were sinking, more so on the side where the in/ex valves share the port wall.
The data logs look good.

The general consensus is the chambers are too hot. Where we are running C16, we're trying to understand all possible causes before determining next steps.

Thoughts?

Sounds like the lean condition might be the culprit. Is the fuel system up to par ? Being its already apart id double check the cam positioning ... Might be a good idea to call your cam guy and talk to him about whats going on ... Just a couple of thoughts.

Im sure you will figure it out.

Good luck

Fuel system is 7.8GPM and plenty volume there. Datalog AFRs look really conservative and plenty of fuel pressure.
