The carpet (in particular the padding on the back) is probably holding some smells. Take it out, wash it on the driveway and leave it out in the sun to dry.

We use Zep products at my work. THey have a product call Powerhouse. It is a mild cleaner, can be used on lots of stuff. It's like a mild carpet cleaner. Many times I have soaked something with it, and laid down a towel, then soaked the towel, and let it sit for a few days. The smell usually is gone. It comes in an aerosol can... We used it at my previous job, They started buying it in 55 gallon barrels!!! It doesn't leave a chemical smell like a lot of deodorizers do. Some of those end up smelling worse than the original smell!!!

Did a little bartering today,
Traded some tuning work on a cool Ford Pick-up for some front end work. Now I'm out scooting around town New lower ball joint boots and getting new front wheel bearings and seal kit. Had mine all apart today and it looks like no seals

Hey!
Yes! I have some Cooper Cobras for front so next treatment is on the way! The 215/70's are outta here! The belts in one of my fronts must have let go as the tire is now round across the tread and wicked skinny!

I need to go to New England dragway and weigh this car.
I like the Bel-tech springs & shocks I did in a 69' GP and want the same in this. Next up:

Also posted this in suspension tech:
Crazy issue here and never had this problem before: 67' GP drum front brakes Had an issue with wheel bearings not holding adjustment and previous owner did not use seals when inspected. Got all new bearings, races, seals, installed..same deal. Drive it around the block, come back & jack it up..wheel is flopping! At this point I'm thinking the machining depth on the drums where races install are wrong or the back shoulder of my spindle is bad. Even though when I cleaned & inspected it all looked good and I test fitted bearings on spindle before packing & install.

Hmmm. I had one of my old Chevy pickups do that. It's a 68, stock drum brakes. It takes the Bearing sets, number 2 and 6. Tiose stock spindles look too small for even a half ton pickup...my opinion
My solution was to take it off the road, and it's BEEN off the road for way too long. Unfortunately my solution (for you...) is going disc brakes. I will be using OEM spindles with stock type rotors/calipers. This stock setup is a waaay better deal than the drums. These take the bigger sets, numbers 3 and 5 Hope you find a repairable solution... Jeff

I took it apart & the bearing was never seating against the back shoulder of the spindle.
My new bearing seals was conformed to the backing plate. I machined up a pair of steel spacers with a radius to match the one on spindle for testing and it worked. Drove the car and it maintained it's adjustment as it should. Now I'm going to make another set the correct thickness and get new seals and move on! Set the toe tonight over my Road Race buddy's garage. Ordering a tire and a set of shocks Moving onto daily driving for rest of season.

Engine runs nice and I decided to spend a little time on the stock AFB to make it run better so it would no longer be on hot list to replace....Done
Clean up engine bay and ship you all those braided lines I know your dying for! Clean up and coat underside Over Winter: build a replacement set of control arms with better material than rubber bushings, new springs like Beltech to match the shocks I just ordered. Next year start saving the body parts that do not bolt on like Roof & quarters
