Well PetroCanada sells 94 at all its stations here in Alberta and probably across Canada, but It’s not ethanol free, rather it’s likely 10% ethanol. I go to the last ethanol free stations left and get their 91 for my old stuff.

Considering the push to get us all electric I'm sure any research in this area became a much lower priority...

I think if they used smaller motors the fuel mileage would greatly increase. My wife has a 2020 RAV IV and it can go 120 MPH and can get there pretty fast with a 4 cylinder but it gets 33 MPG not matter how you dive it. It sure doesn't need all that power why so powerful?

I never held my breath for this. Every time they build a new gas station out here there is talk of offering some high test pump gas and every time it's done, there is nothing of the sort. I'd hate to think what the price would be for it at this point in time anyway.
We have 91 octane with 10% ethanol and that's it. Been running it for 17 years now on 600 and 700hp NA pump gas engines and it's been fine. Even use it on 11:1 engines with iron heads and daily drive one. With the correct camshaft timing and a good tune up, I've never had any need for higher octane. It would be nice if they came out with something like that, but I don't see it as necessary. I've learned to live with what we have and build engines around it. |

Performance Hallmarks: modern VW TDI Turbo Diesels get 50 MPG and accelerate quick.
On the flipside: them U-Haul Trucks haul 25,000 Lbs but get 6 MPG, even when parked. Some day we ought to see Hydrogenated fuels, for 98+ Octane. |

Pretty much anything with a turbo making it's own atmosphere should accelerate quickly. It better or something is wrong, LOL

While I always thought the engineers knew this the problem might be oil refiners are locked into the low octane fuel. There might need to be a meeting of auto makers, refiners and the governing bodies to make this happen which means, it's only gonna happen when the oil refiners start losing money from electrics taking over a large market share and they need gas vehicles to really compete.
Hybrids of high octane 4 cylinder turbo engines and electric motors are probably a more practical future 15 years from now.

Sunoco 94 has began to show back up around Jersey & Texas . I’d b happy if that showed back up around the house , that was my go to for years .

Hmmm, 2-same posts. Wonder if you got a 20-sec warning between posts.
And my recent single post might just get a 20 second warning between posts. |

They just built a new Sheetz down the road. They sell 87, 88 and diesel.

I always thought why couldn't auto makers go to very high compression small 4 cylinder engines for economy ?
Then we could use the gas for you know...................... our stuff. Last edited by Dragncar; 10-22-2023 at 06:53 PM. |

And that is not even taking into account electric trucks that do not have a chance of working. No range and the weight of the batteries will not work except in some Greenies mind. +, can you imagine what kind of giant bomb a electric big rig would be if it all went bad ? Tesla fire x 100 |

Consider who has been running the show the last half of those 5 years. Plan on waiting forever unless things change drastically.

^this was my point - one only needs to look at California going to zero emissions by 2035. This is why more refineries aren’t built - costs too much money and if other states follow California’s lead, there won’t be a return of investment for the oil companies. A neighboring county here in Maryland already has zero emissions lawn car. One issue with all this is being forced into electric - if the technology was that great and the infrastructure was there, no mandates would be required.

Zero emissions lawn care? I haven't heard that one before.
That simply wouldn't work out here where we have acres to take care of, or anywhere with acreage for that matter. I'm sure farmers and ranchers are like "you gotta be kidding right?" LOL |

California has been a cesspool of bad decision making for years, they already have, or have been trying to pass, some "no emissions" areas where gas powered stuff is not allowed. Their goal of no emissions state wide by 2035 will simply kill that state as they rely heavily on tourism. There goes a bunch of income. I can't see those businesses that rely on tourism agreeing to something like that but with a one party state, there's not much you can do, which is why people are leaving by the thousands, as well as businesses.
I honestly don't think it's a formula that too many other states will follow as we all slowly watch the decline over there only get worse. We saw the writing on the wall many years ago when my wife's family offered us property and a house at a reasonable price. We had no interest in moving there. Could have quadrupled our money on the property by now but we would have been like everyone else and high tailing it out of there. |

Here tell that the surface of our Moon is rich in Helium 3 which is a superb energy source.
A space shuttle full could provide almost the whole electrical needs for the US for a year!

Interestingly, signs of life!
A new Shell station opened 5 miles north of me a couple months back. Imagine my surprise when I rolled up for fuel the first time and noticed the sign, "Racing Fuel This Pump" and a separate handle for 110 Octane!! But then I remembered... this station is also 5 miles outside the entrance to Lake Pleasant where a lot of, shall we say, high performance and non emission compliant boats like to run. Oh, and the price? Yeah, 110 Octane is $10/gallon. But I digress... Needless to say, I'm thrilled just to have the option!!
