Engine rebuild is progressing. Received all the parts from EGGE, right on time and no errors, good service!
Machining is mostly done, had to fab some boring plates since my builder didn't have anything for Poncho OHC. Crank just needed polishing on the main and rod areas but I was surprised how out of balance the balancer, crank and flywheel were 15-25 grams off each. No wonder engine had a "coarseness" to her over 4k. Hopefully she will be ready to head home by the end of the week.

Finished the instal over the weekend and put a good 100 miles on it Sunday. Despite the heat (90's and very humid it runs beautiful with no noises or vibration. Happy and relieved as this is my first foray into the workings of an OHC. Oil pressure is 20 at hot idle and 40 at hot cruising speed (didn't change the pump and it looks factory).
Only thing is a bit of weakness off idle (not the accel pump). I believe the problem is that the vacuum advance is DOA (probably has been for years). It uses ported vacuum that should give vacuum advance right as you step on it before RPM builds so that is probably the culprit. Found an NOS one and should have it by the end of the week.

Always a good feeling to be back on the road. The car seems to be a familiar color =P

In hindsight it was long overdue for a rebuild, apart from no longer blowing blue smoke on acceleration the biggest change is smoothness. The engine has never had a full rebuild before but the cylinders had been overbored in 78. The crank, flywheel and balancer were all way out of balance so the change in "revability" is huge.
Power is up by probably a third from its previous tired state. The appeal of a Sprint is now more evident, feels a bit like a stout little 283 chevy V8.
